Cyclops Post 1311579 in which he said

My above statement is presented as opinion. You are free to disagree with it; if I wanted to state it as a categorical fact, I would have provided supporting evidence, which I didn't care to do.

It's not entirely clear what you are trying to point out by posting my words, Fox, though I stand by them.

Let's see . . . this thread claims to be about the mid-term elections in November. Is Bill Clinton running for the House or the Senate then? No?

Hmmm . . . how long has it been since Clinton was President? More than five years? Hmmm . . .

No doubt about it, boys, you've been suckered. They've got you talking about Slick Willy instead of the Republicans.

Let's talk about George Allen.... he was going to run for President in 2008, wasn't he?

I think when George Allen proclaimed on television that he wasn't really a racist, he lost most of his constituency.

Poor Allen; he tried so hard to avoid divulging his Jewish ancestry, and it comes out anyway. This is too bad because he certainly fits the mold of weird Republican presidential candidates.

Regarding the Cole, it wasn't certified by the CIA that al Qaida was responsible until after Bush took office. Notwithstanding this, Bush didn't have a single meeting on combating terrorism, and even discouraged any action on this, until after 9/11.

Well seriously. You quote the thing about the sow's ear and provide a link for its source and then ask me to refute that? So who's having an off day here?

If you hadn't invoked Clinton's name though I probably wouldn't have popped off. The bruhaha over that Wallace interview is so off the wall that there is no way to even discuss it coherently. Clinton in no way looked or sounded like a statesman--and him slurring his words through the interview does give some questions about whether he was operating impaired. But the pundits are already challenging the truth of many of his statements and the GOP will make more of it than it warrants and the Democrats will try to put a better spin on it than it warrants.

And in the end we are left with sow's ears and silk purses and there realy is nothing to refute regarding that.

It is interesting to watch the White House and other Republicans spin the newly leaked Natl. Intell. Estimate, which they say is wrong, despite being prepared by 16 intell. agencies.

They say that our leaving Iraq would not stop terrorism. The report doesn't say otherwise, but states that it is much worse thanks to our war in Iraq. They also point to our not being attacked domestically in the five years since 9/11. This, of course, ignores the eight years between the first and second attacks on the Twin Towers, when there was no homeland security and no Bush.

Republicans have very wrong priorities.

They want harsher laws against immigration and they want to loosen laws against torture.

I don't get how anyone thinks they represent American values.

I hope they undo every policy that Bush has put in place for security,I hope they pull all of the US troops out of the middle east, and I hope they release every prisoner held by the US in Gitmo.

Then, when we get hit again in another 9/11 style attack, they dems will have nobody to blame but themselves..

Nice to know you're willing to see another attack on American soil, are in fact hoping for it as you state right here in black and white, so that the dems look stupid. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.... what would be enough for you Mr. Patriotic War Hero?

About certain claims by MM concerning the cole and others, Clinton answers them in his interview with Wallace. Here is the full interview. Wow.

Not that I think it is going to help anything, in my opinion, if we manage to get a few seats to even things up a little, we will be lucky. As this guy said about the dems,

Quote:
"Never underestimate the Republicans' ability to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, and never underestimate the Democrats' ability to make a sow's ear out of a silk purse," he said.

Oh well gee, if Clinton used an opportunity to slur the Republicans/right wing then it certainly must be true. He certainly has never been known to lie about anything.

(Explanation for the cognitively impaired: this is sarcasm.)

The reason I left a link for the Clinton/wallace interview was to refute some of the charges MM made.

Which btw-your right, the conservative blogs have begun to try and refute the facts Clinton laid out, but as usual they are wrong.

http://thinkprogress.org/2006/09/25/fact-sheet-clinton/

The line about the silk purse out of a sow's ear was from Dennis Goldford, a political science professor at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. I inserted the quote to stress on the reason I believe that democrats will probably not pick enough seats to over take either the house or the senate which even a conservative political annalist agreed with.

I was not asking you to refute the quote of Dennis Goldford simply because I understood from your post (which is quoted in full above) you were talking about the Clinton interview since you typed in his name.

However after you said you were not going to refute the line about the sows ear, I just assumed you were having an off day and got all confused and so let it go because frankly I felt the whole thing was just getting silly and it still is, so never mind about the Clinton stuff, there is a thread devoted just for the interview.

Goldford does have a point about republicans making a silk purse out of a sow's ear and democrats making a sow's ear out of a silk purse.

There has been so much evidence to suggest that the Bush administration whole reason for going to war with Iraq to make America safer is just full of holes, but the chances of democrats profiting from that fact and dismissing the myth that democrats are soft on security is not very good if the past five years have been anything to go by. Because for years the Bush rhetoric has not lived up to reality yet still most Americans still think they are better at security than democrats.

Clinton wants three things I believe:
1) To be able to claim some kind of legacy that doesn't look terrible in the history books

2) To keep himself in the limelight. No ex-president in history has been the camera hog and self-promoting public personna as he has been these last several years. I think he craves it. I think he needs it. And he has virtually destroyed the presidential protocol observed by all his predecessors. He even said "If I was still President.....blah, blah, blah....." In my view of it this is inexcusable.

3) To help Hillary get elected because if she is elected, he gets all the wonderful perks that go with the office including the White House, Air Force I, and state dinners all over the world.

Ah the rightwingnuts do love to hate Clinton. And, of course, they would rather discuss Clinton, because the Republicans look like **** right now.

Once again, congratulations are in order for diverting the topic to Clinton, rather than the mid-term elections, in which Clinton is not running.

Right wingers have to do anything to distract away from the facts which stares at them in the face concerning the Iraq war and the overall war on terrorism in the world which has been "a miserable failure." So they made up stuff in the ABC special which then clinton refuted in the wallace interview. He had a perfect right to do so since it was the inaccurate facts in the special were to do with clinton. Clinton couldn't get out of the limelight even if he wanted to because right wingers keep bringing him in. And they do like Set said, because they have distract attention, and then we democrats fall for over it and over again. For some reason I just can't seem to resist, I am sorry to say because they keep saying false things that just has to be refuted.
