The concentration of media control under a few major corporations will predictably result in the use of those media outlets to further corporate interests, however "interests" might be conceived which very definitely may not be aligned with what either the general public or the founders conceived.

Please again note the Gingrich statement in my signature line. That's not a joke.

American Airlines Latest to Hit ABC's 9/11 Film
American Airlines Latest to Hit ABC's 9/11 Film -- Legal Action to Follow?
By E&P Staff
Published: September 11, 2006

The controversial ABC film "The Path to 9/11," which concluded its two-day run on Monday night, has been hit for alleged political bias, and fictional or compressed events, but a major corporation has now denounced its treatment in the movie, as well.

The film in both its first part and second part appears to suggest that chief hijacker Atta was flagged as a security risk at Boston's Logan Airport by American Airlines personnel. According to the 9/11 Commision Report that incident occured earlier that morning, in Maine, and the airline was US Airways.

Late Monday, American Airlines released the folllowing statement: "The Disney/ABC television program, 'The Path to 9/11,' which began airing last night, is inaccurate and irresponsible in its portrayal of the airport check-in events that occurred on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001.

"A factual description of those events can be found in the official government edition of the 9/11 Commission Report and supporting documents.

"This misrepresentation of facts dishonors the memory of innocent American Airlines employees and all those who lost their lives as a result of the tragic events of 9/11."

American said it will have no further comment beyond the statement at this time. But earlier in the day it had sent a letter to those who had contacted the company with the same complaint, inspired by liberal blogger John Aravosis of Americablog. He received a letter which read:

"I think it is important for you to know that ABC had factual errors in its dramatization, and we are looking at possible legal actions as a result. ...Please know this was a tragic incident in our company's history and we hope you will be
sympathetic to our employees and our airline on this day especially. Again, we are outraged by this situation, and we alerted ABC about its gross error. It is very unfortunate."

It was signed by Roger Frizzell, Vice President, Corporate Communications & Advertising, American Airlines.

Meanwhile, President Clinton and his advisers remain unhappy with the film. Bruce Lindsey, CEO of the Clinton foundation, and Douglas J. Band, counselor, wrote yet another letter to Robert Iger, chief at Disney (which owns ABC) today. It concludes:

"Having now seen the first night of this fiction, it is clear that the edits made to the film did not address the factual errors that we brought to your attention. 'The Path to 9/11' flagrantly ignored the facts as reported by the 9/11 Commission and invented its own version of history. The result, in our judgment, is irreparable damage to the Commission's work. More importantly, it is a disservice to the American people.

"That the film directly contradicts the findings of the 9/11 Commission is troubling. That it defames dedicated public officials is tragic. But the fact that it misleads millions of people about the most tragic and consequential event in recent history is disgraceful."

Yeah, no.

Whatever happened to 'the buck stops here?' I guess that sort of personal responsiblity ended a long time ago.

But, here's an account of the guy who checked Atta and others in -

http://www2.oprah.com/tows/slide/200509/20050912/slide_20050912_101.jhtml

And how the another lady who checked them through in Boston comitted suicide because she was so guilty about what happened.

Never mind that their IDs checked out and they passed security, it was completely AA's fault, right? Right.

When the TSA, FAA and Airlines can not figure out (pre-9/11) how to "keep us safe", with all the technology that was available, the busk stops right there with them.

I can not remember who it was but someone on the 9-11 Panel made this statement (paraphrase) to the FAA exec who was boo-hooing about how difficult it is to track people against a security list...

"You guys can track frequent flyer miles but you can not match a data base?"

Bottom line was the airlines did not want to work with the agencies.

CIA...totally innocent? FBI...totally innocent? Any administration personnel or agency...totally innocent? FAA...totally innocent? United Airlines? What security regimes were in place that morning? Who established them?

We've seen you go for the simplistic before, but the one above is a dilly.

While some point to the fact Sunday night's NFL Manning Brothers matchup outpulled 2nd-place ABC's Path, it should be noted that Path[/b] pulled the highest non-sports ratings for Sunday night and dominated Monday night.

Quote:
ABC Takes 'Path' to Monday Win

September 12 2006

Fast National ratings for Monday, Sept. 11, 2006

The conclusion of ABC's miniseries "The Path to 9/11" led ABC to a ratings win Monday ...

... ABC averaged a 7.4 rating/11 share for the night, finishing well ahead of CBS' 5.2/8. NBC was third at 4.2/7. FOX, 4.0/7, came in fourth, and The WB trailed with a 1.2/2.

The Alphabet also led among adults 18-49, scoring a 3.7 rating. FOX, 2.5, was second, with CBS not far behind at 2.3. NBC drew a 1.8 in the key ad demographic, while The WB managed only a 0.6 ...

No matter how Path's detractors wish to spin it, the program performed very respectably for a miniseries, its viewership numbers no doubt boosted significantly due to the attention generated by those opposed to its airing. Good job, Democrats.

ABC has both nights of the program available for free online viewing (broadband recommended) - ABC.Com - Path to 9/11 - also, as previously mentioned, those who care to see what was edited may access the unexpurgated scenes Here.

If folks turned it on after hearing the kerfuffle, then that's not such a bad thing as those folks will be, to some degree at least, aware of the truth/falsity issues. And the more awareness of that stuff, the better.

I assumed it, though my post doesn't demand such an assumption. Perhaps you are a socialist with a toothache. Maybe a Green and you put some freshly cut front lawn in the blender this morning and life has taken a turn for the seriously unpleasant. Perhaps you are a John Bircher with a lot of deceased comrades. Don't know what you are. Doesn't much matter. I'm not a member of any party anywhere.

Apart from the NFL game, Path outpulled EVERYTHING both nights running. Its worth noting little if anything on US television EVER outdraws a well-hyped, live, evening prime time major sporting event. Worth noting as well is that the story was no more flattering to the Bush administration's role in the debacle than it was to the Clinton administration's role, with fact-stretching dramatizations present in both episodes, concerning the people and actions of both administrations; the point made was that the ball was dropped all around. Which brings the question: why are the wadded up panties over this mostly worn by the Democrats?
