Me too. Have been reading articles, this jumped out at me:

Quote:
Lara Karr said she was devastated and embarrassed by the allegations that her ex-husband was involved in JonBenet's death, but she told the television station she believes he is innocent. In December 1996 when JonBenet was killed in Colorado, the couple was living in Alabama, and Lara Karr said she was with John Karr throughout the Christmas season.

It doesn't seem like she'd have any reason to protect him -- she seems to dislike him intensely, and he has no particular relationship with their sons.

Also, he did an especially good paper in college on the case that could have conceivably turned up the "inside info" that he seems to know.

Phoenix mentioned a possible motive for "confessing" even if he didn't really do it -- US jail as opposed to Thai jail.

Again, I hope they have some sort of a slam-dunk -- like the DNA -- so this is resolved once and for all.

Put me in the skeptic column too. He's apparently got a motive to lie-- i.e., to avoid prison in Thailand-- and the ex-wife's story seems to indicate he lacked opportunity to commit the crime.

Although I wouldn't mind being proved wrong!

when tiny JonBenet Ramsey was found beaten and strangled in the basement of her home 10 years ago, suspicion fell on parents John and Patsy, a former Miss Virginia contestant.

One of the few who maintained their innocence was Michael Tracey, a journalism professor and documentary maker who claimed from the start JonBenet was killed by an intruder.

His campaign to catch the killer was rewarded yesterday as police revealed hundreds of emails between Professor Tracey and John Karr were crucial to the accused killer's capture in Thailand.

Karr made contact four years ago after seeing the first of three documentaries the academic produced about JonBenet's murder. Karr wanted to discuss the case at length and eventually began to reveal details only the police or the killer could have known.

Professor Tracey began feeding the emails back to police in the US, who compared Karr's deep inside knowledge to the relatively scant details that had been released publicly.

This aspect of the case is getting a lot of coverage here right now.

Yes. We all have to be skeptical. John Mark Karr might be some KOOK looking for fame. But, he does appear to be a threat to children. I heard a report that he left the United States in 2001 to evade trial on a pending child porn charge. I also heard that he had applied for or secured a teaching position in Thailand to teach second graders and authorities decided to arrest him NOW in order to protect the children.

it's highly improbable that this suspect is the killer, unless his DNA matches crime scene DNA. by the same token, the Ramseys are cleared in my mind regardless of how the current situation develops, because their DNA didn't match either.

That's good info, ehBeth. I hadn't seen that in what I've been reading about it. There were some implications, but nothing so definite.

We'll see.

IMO, they are a disgusting exploitation of children. Parents who expose their young children to such ordeals are doing nothing good for their children. Such events should be outlawed.

What about parents of little 8-10 year old girls, who let them out on the street wearing close to nothing. What's so exciting about
a female navel, anyway?

What is the subject and discussion, again? You only posted a news article and did not specify what the discussion should entail.

I won't clutter your thread with peripheral information. Shocked

you knew what I meant....the going off on what someone finds sexy about navels, into what kids are wearing doing....

this, I thought was about arresting a murderer of a 6 year old.

Regardless of being a junior pageant queen, she a dead little girl who had a terrible end.

Is that clearer.

Sure, there was some discussion on some of the things behind what happens to children when parents try to make them grow up too fast. This is what happend to the 6 year old child, Jon Benet. I guess we should have pointed our discussion to the childhood of Mr. Karr.

Intripid....don't go off twisting the subject getting caught up in some people shouldn't enter children in contests, or have them wear a certain type of shoe, or whatever...

Really not in the mood.

The little child is dead and nothings going to bring her back, and the belief she died because she was entered in pageants is ludicrouse. I don't know that a pedophile would me more likely to stalk and kill her than a little kid that leaves in a deeply rural area, or one that the monster sees walking past his house every day and gets aroused by his/her flip flops.

I'm tired of you trying to make everything match your agenda. In fact, it's tiring to my soul to listen to you, and has been for a long time. So, that said, I'm not going to pay attention to you anymore, from now on.

ZZZZAAPPP!

And yes actually, at this point I would like a phychological profile on Karr much more than having to slog through the whole JonBenet the beauty queen thing.

Exactly. The brutal, murderous pedophile, Joseph Edward Duncan, had his criminal propensities aroused simply by watching his soon-to-be child victims playing in their own yard:

Quote:
Joseph Edward Duncan III had spotted 8-year-old Shasta Groene playing in a bathing suit with her 9-year-old brother, Dylan, the documents say.

"[Duncan] told her he watched her two or three days, and at night would peer inside the home," Detective Brad Maskell told the judge, according to records from a closed-door probable cause hearing Tuesday. The records say he used night-vision goggles to learn the home's layout before bursting in....

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,162231,00.html

JonBenet, by marching around on a beauty pageant stage, did NOT invite this horrendous crime upon herself anymore than Shasta Groene by playing in her own yard, running through a sprinkler in her bathing suit. Neither did the parents invite the brutal attacks on their children by their behavior. The blame lies solely on the shoulders of the murdering, despicable pedophile.

I don't think anybody suggested that was the reason behind the murder. It was merely brought up by ehBeth that she couldn't understand child pageants and it went from there. Never was it suggested that this, or the child, was the cause for anything and it certainly does not take away from the responsibility of the killer.

Some people seem to take what they want out of a post and ignore all else. Whatever fits the agenda I guess.

In this case, they have a suspect. Nothing more .... nothing less. After 10 years, he almost caught himself. It will be interesting to see the facts unfold.

So you'll be starting a thread each time a suspect in a child's murder is arrested?

Surprise me.

I agree. Unlike the case of Joseph Edward Duncan, there is no definitive "smoking gun" to identify John Mark Karr as the perpetrator of this horrendous crime other than his own incriminating statements. He could be a pedophile and a kook and obsessed with high profile child sex victim cases. There are reports, that in addition to being obsessed with the JonBenet case, he was previously obsessed with the Polly Klaas case. He even moved to Petaluma. (When did he move to Petaluma? after JonBenet's murder?)

See:

Quote:

Polly Hannah Klaas (January 3, 1981 - October-November 1993) was a kidnap and murder victim whose case gained national attention. At the age of twelve, she was kidnapped at knifepoint from her mother's home in Petaluma, California on October 1, 1993. She was later strangled. Richard Allen Davis was convicted of the crimes, in 1996, and sentenced to death.

Because she loved music and performing in plays, the Polly Hannah Klaas Performing Arts Center was created in her honor in Petaluma....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polly_Klaas

Merely speculation, but perhaps due to his obsession with the case of Polly Klaas, he sought to recreate the crime by targeting JonBenet. The similarities between the two cases are remarkable.
