There are quite a few Thai here in Arctic Europe, which makes me assume that you will be able to dig up some Down Under too (or do you live in the real outback?).

Congratulations.

No, I don't live in the real outback. Laughing I've been trying to find some organisations, but haven't had any luck so far. Maybe I'll just take her to a Thai restaurant on her first day here. Thai people are just so naturally friendly. I can't imagine her meeting some local Thais and not getting in a very involved discussion in short order.

24 hours from now, I'll be in Bangkok. Another 14 and I'll finally get to hold her again. And this time, we don't have to say goodbye. Very Happy

Congrats, Wilso!

I have a friend who is active (still, I think) in a Thai social welfare group in Sydney (he's not Thai - but does speak it and is a doctor). I can ask him about contacts.

That would be great Margo. There's plenty of groups around for Filipino/Australian couples. Have found any specific to Thai's yet.

I wish you well, Wilso, and also wish her well.

I remember a lot of posts by you unhappy with expressive women. Not to nail you to the wall for those, but to say that communication in a relationship is vital. May you have many many years of growth together.

We're in Bangkok now. I've just booked a hotel in the city where her Mum lives. Going to meet her for the first time later this week. We're going to visit her sister tomorrow in Chonburi.

Indeed. Will they approve of the guy taking their little girl 5000 miles away?

We're in Nee's home town of Sisaket. "Farang" are not very common here. I seem to be somewhat of a novelty. Nee tells me it will be even more apparent tomorrow when we travel 40km out of the city to her Mum's home.

Wilso,

I remember the feeling of being somewhat of a novelty when I visited China with my wife. A few times people just stared at me.

Places like Bangkok are not an issue. There's westerners everywhere, and it seems like half the people can speak some English. I haven't heard one person here speak it. (but the people are still good natured, they're just so friendly in this country).
