Chirac doesn't like the anglais
That's a lie, je n'en peux mais
He loves the big blokes,
the Brits, the Scots and the folks,
he just wants them to stay in their place.

McTag, I have enjoyed my encounter with this forum thus far.....and hope to have many more....

translation? Well, all my life I have felt a little out of balance with what is accepted and normal......so I have learned to "ask" rather than "assume."

The limerick is one of my favorite forms of poetry either in light heartedness, or more serious aspects of life....which I have recently learned is not a true limerick because this form is supposed to be light hearted and almost beat with rhythm.

although I have written a good share of poetry, I continue to learn everyday.

Thanks for taking the time.....and yes...I agree.....this string is inspiring. (I know, you did not actually use those words..but....)

I'll ask my friend Clary, who is wise and knows stuff...does a Limerick need to be lighthearted?
They usually are, of course.
Come to that, should a haiku always be serious?

They say the dollar's shrinking
but you know what I am thinking
I am thinking that it's made up in their heads.

Was inspired by a nautical muse
To return to his ship
And enjoy a quick dip
With a mermaid? He couldn't refuse.

One night lying under the stars,
after last call in the bars.
I touched the rising moon
then fell back in a swoon
between Venus, Mercury and Mars.

But what will happen when I leave?
Will they sing or be happy or grieve?
Of course, I'll never know
I'm the one on the go

Why not? You speak French!
That will give you an inch-
or a mile in the case of some nymphos.

(*Not me though - just a little joke- I couldn't resist Francis- no offense, okay?)

Preen.

I think limericks have to amuse; the form requires it, and the rhythm supports it. Haiku should apparently be serious, nature-based, have all sorts of restrictions.

But we here make them whatever we like and nobody seems to mind.

I think you asked for a translation of some strange and probably transAtlantic slang from our old-fashioned but spot-on friend back there. Did he/she ever give it?

And it goes with a thump-

That's how my heart goes- does yours?
