@Walter Hinteler,
The Arabs conquered--stole--Palestine in the 7th century. The Arabs were in turn conquered at the end of the 11th century. The Arabs never again conquered Palestine, even though Palestine was subsequently conquered multiple time by others.

I heard on radio the other night that there is another group, not Fatah, that is already fighting Hamas in Gaza. The claim by this other group is that Hamas is supposedly not religious enough. If there was a Palestinean state tomorrow, how long would it last?

That would be up to the Palestinians to decide now wouldn't it? Take the land that was stolen for Israel, give the new state 3 billion a year and see how well they do.

@ican711nm,
ican, If you wish to go back the the seventh century, the borders of countries have changed so much, how do expect to reconcile this change to today's world? The US didn't even exist. Are you ready to give up your home and return it to the native Americans?

As georgeob like to say about okie, you're just jerking off!

@cicerone imposter,
Well perhaps I am wrong and women enjoy being view as less then human and beaten if they do not obey the males in their lives and even kill as in honor killings if they married someone that their family did not set up for them.

Sorry I am sure that you could find such women who would enjoy living in such a culture.

I speak for women on this planet. I do not like to see men treat women like property.

While those that are anti-Zionist are specific to the supposed misdeeds of Israel, do we ever hear by anti-Zionists of the problems in the Arab society for women, or the jousting for political supremacy by males? The Arab world might have awhile to become modern (aka, like the western powers). Yes, I do consider the west more ethical than the Moslem world.

I do not consider anti-Zionism an isolated political persuasion for all individuals today, since it has been proven that anti-Zionism often correlates to socialist/left-wing ideology. It makes sense, since Israel started out as a socialist state, and today is proving the virtues of Reaganomics. A real reversal of Marxist theology (capitalism leads to socialism). A slap in the face of socialist ideology, I would think. Plus, if there ever was an independent Pal state, it would likely vote in the UN alongside left-leaning nations, since it would likely not be able to survive economically in a purely capitalistic economy.

@ican711nm,
That's a wrap, folks, we can all go home and leave this to the constitutional scholar and his assistant.

Or is that 'the constituional scholar and her assistant'?

Somebody get the lights.

@BillRM,
Bill, You really don't understand what you are talking about; many women follow old cultural laws and traditions, not because the men force them to, but by personal choice. Most people in Muslim countries do not force women to live according to religious beliefs. As for the extremists (we also have extremists in the US), they really don't follow the book of Islam, but interpret their "bible" in ways many christians interpret their bible. We are all aware of the backward countries that still force their women to cover all of their body, but they are in the minority of Muslim countries.

Again, are you speaking for all Muslim women? I don't think so.

@cicerone imposter,
This is a picture I took in Central Asia last year where some 90% of the population are Muslims. Also, many countries in this part of the world prohibits the promotion of religion. This picture was taken on the last day of school where students celebrate, and these two young ladies talked to us in English. Many in this part of the world not only speak English, but are multi-lingual, and we have met young people who speak five or six languages.

You think they need your advocacy?

We are unlikely to know how many women would follow their culture even if they would not be beaten on the streets by the religion police.

And this treatment is handed out to women in some of the countries that are our proud allies.

I guess you can assume that the men who are doing the patrolling and the beatings of the women for the fun of it instead of out of the need to keep them following the line in both dress and behavior.

@BillRM,
No. You made a generalized opinion that doesn't fit the facts, and I proved the reasons why.

If you really want equality for women, there's still inequality of pay between men and women in the US. Maybe, you should concern yourself with that issue first.
