Contradictions in the Bible...

Bible has all kinds of flaws but mainly what was not posted in the bible. 1.They say mary madglene was a prositute, there is no proof what so ever of this, it does not say in the bible this at all, it was fabricated by scolares later.
2.Jesus could have marred marry madgdalene just to be a supporter! in jesus said it himself that the ministry was to take care of the widows and the orphans!
3. When that prositute was meant to be stoned and jesus wrote the names in the sand.... This was never in the origanl bible, it was added when there were doing the cannon of the bible! this was a religious rumour that was very popular so it got in.
4.There was a book of Jesus' childhood, jesus was a mistevious child (but not sinful), who would sometimes toy with his powers, get in little tiffs with royal officals...and so on, Yet kept out of the bible for some reason.
5.The Gospel of Mary Magdalene, this told the Gospel of her point of view, and right before Jesus' asention he said "You and all the women of my church have a special place in my heart". Peter or paul address her about this later say that Jesus and her had a close relationship and asking what he said. This was banned from the bible b/c of the Gnostic belief of Mary and Jesus were married, also The Catholics wanted no place in the church for women, it was a male ruled church!
6.Mary mother of Jesus had a book about her life and why she was chosen for conceiving the holy god....they kept this book out which you wouldn't think the catholics would do.
7. The Revelation of Peter or paul or something..... This was almost identical to Johns revelation, it was less poetic with no where near as much symbolism....but! in it it revealed that there is a hell, but that everyone one is getting out someday, but that it was so secret b/c then ppl could do what ever they wanted..but to never loos hope, your all getting out. This was banned for the obvious reasons, catholics didn't want other in THERE heaven.
8. Hell, it was never presented in Jewish belief. they had one verse that said after death there was a place of eternal sleeping, and hell mean complete separation from god, Jewish belief thinks its more of a concept than a place, and just about every religion believes you get out of hell sometime. Also almost everything we know about hell is from Adonte's inferno, not from the bible.
I got more but i tired of typing, ill post more later.

Surely would love to try as soon as you give something more than just a bunch of assertions with nothing to back them up...

Had I been the one making these assertions I would have already read it and had everything in line to back up what I was saying. Do you?

By they way, if we are going to continue this discussion I would appreciate it if you could start another thread concerning your topic here. I'd like to keep this one about contradictions in the bible if possible. I am not on my own computer right now, but whenever you come up with what you need to back up your claims start a new thread and I'll get back to you later this evening when I'm home. Thanks.

Miss Eppie wanted to discuss biblical contradictions. I showed up because i find that an interesting topic. If you don't wish to discuss that, fine, but then how to explain the many posts with which you are clogging a thread on a topic which you say doesn't interest you?

For a wonderful NT contradiction, look at the geneologies of your boy Hey-Zeus.

Set, somehow I missed this post in the flurry of things way back then. I was just re-reading a few things and found this. I don't know if you remember this or not but some time... maybe 3-4 months ago I actually addressed this question about the genealogies of Jesus. Problem is I can't remember what thread it was in, but it's floating around out there somewhere...

Edit

I found it. It was in the Tower of Babble thread you started. I thought I researched this one better though:

I don't yet have all the info I've been looking for, but I have a couple things I would like throw out there:

When I went back and looked at the geneology's listed I found something interesting. They were the same until David. In Matthew 1 after David it gives the geneology of his son Solomon. In Luke 3 it gives the geneology of Nathan his son. Which makes it seem as though they are talking about two separate people. How can that be? Unless they are giving the geneology of Mary. Which is not something that was usually done. However after thinking about this it makes some sense to me because they were giving the geneology of Jesus. Because Mary was his mother and Joseph was not his paternal father it seems the geneology that would have to be listed was Mary's in Luke.

Now as far as Joseph having two fathers... I did do some limited research on this as well and found out that Mary was considered a heiress because she had no brothers. So therefore according to the Jewish law her husband was counted among her father's family, as his son. I am still trying to contact a few friends of mine who are Jewish from long ago to verify this information. But it does put an interesting twist on things...

Hey neo. Smile Did you get a chance to read the rest of the posts? If so, does my explanation make any sort of sense?
I haven't been paying proper attention to this thread. I suppose I should turn on the email updates.

But, you are doing quite well, as far as I can see. With regards to Epi's references to the apocryphal books, they were left out of the canon for a reason and the subject really deserves a thread of its own.

How many sons did Absalom have?

Their scripture:

Quote:
2 Samuel 18:18
Now Absalom ... said, I have not son to keep my name in remembrance.

The scripture in context:

Quote:
2 Samuel 18
16 So Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing Israel. For Joab held back the people. 17 And they took Absalom and cast him into a large pit in the woods, and laid a very large heap of stones over him. Then all Israel fled, everyone to his tent. 18 Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and set up a pillar for himself, which is in the King's Valley. For he said, "I have no son to keep my name in remembrance." He called the pillar after his own name. And to this day it is called Absalom's Monument.

Their scripture:

Quote:

2 Samuel 14:27
And unto Absalom there were born three sons

In order to better understand this we need to understand the story here:

Quote:
2 Samuel 13

26 Then Absalom said, "If not, please let my brother Amnon go with us."
And the king said to him, "Why should he go with you?" 27 But Absalom urged him; so he let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him. 28 Now Then all the king's sons arose, and each one got on his mule and fled. 30 And it came to pass, while they were on the way, that news came to David, saying, "Absalom has killed all the king's sons, and not one of them is left!"

First Absalom kills his brother.

Quote:
2 Samuel 13
34 Then Absalom fled. And the young man who was keeping watch lifted his eyes and looked, and there, many people were coming from the road on the hillside behind him. 35 And Jonadab said to the king, "Look, the king's sons are coming; as your servant said, so it is." 36 So it was, as soon as he had finished speaking, that the king's sons indeed came, and they lifted up their voice and wept. Also the king and all his servants wept very bitterly. 37 But Absalom fled and went to Talmai the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day. 38 So Absalom fled and went to Geshur, and was there three years.

Then he flees because he knows he's in trouble...

Quote:
2 Samuel 14
22 Then Joab fell to the ground on his face and bowed himself, and thanked the king. And Joab said, "Today your servant knows that I have found favor in your sight, my lord, O king, in that the king has fulfilled the request of his servant." 23 So Joab arose and went to Geshur, and brought Absalom to Jerusalem. 24 And the king said, "Let him return to his own house, but do not let him see my face." So Absalom returned to his own house, but did not see the king's face.

Then he is allowed to return to his own house.

Quote:
2 Samuel 14
27 To Absalom were born three sons, and one daughter whose name was Tamar. She was a woman of beautiful appearance. 28 And Absalom dwelt two full years in Jerusalem, but did not see the king's face. 29 Therefore Absalom sent for Joab, to send him to the king, but he would not come to him. And when he sent again the second time, he would not come.

THEN he has three sons and a daughter.

There are not a lot of specifics on the happenings of Absalom while he was in hiding after killing his brother. However, he did leave his wife behind for three years, and it was shortly after his return that sons were born to him. Therefore I would have to say that because it does not specify a specific time frame in which Absalom built this pillar for himself it was obviously while he did not yet have children.

Though I'd like to take it one step further and submit that there is a very great possibility that the time frame in which he did build this was during that time he was in hiding. If you think about it, it would make sense. He's killed his brother and run away leaving behind his wife. He knows his father is probably quite angry and has every right to have him killed. So he's preserved his OWN life in running yet, he does not "have a son to keep his name in remembrance." So he builds himself a pillar based out of the thought that he may never return home alive to have a son. That however is speculation on my part which we all know usually goes over around here like a lead balloon. LOL

So my main point remains that what was said was "in his lifetime." Obviously he did not have children at the time he made that statement. And obviously that part of the scripture was left out of their quoting of it for a reason. And the answer to the question is three sons and one daughter.

6Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia.

Acts 16:6

Why would the Holy Spirit keep the out of Asia?

Did you read any further in Acts? You may want to look at Chapter 19.

Acts 19:1  ¶And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
2  He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
3  And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
4  Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5  When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6  And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
7  And all the men were about twelve.
8  ¶And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.
9  But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.
10  And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.
11  And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:
12  So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.
13  ¶Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.
14  And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.
15  And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?
16  And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
17  And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.
18  And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.
19  Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.
20  So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.
21  ¶After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome.
22  So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season.

Which basically means that Paul WAS in Asia, contrary to what you are originally saying. That IS what you were saying, was it not?

Paul eventually did go into Asia, right?
