the BBC-NEWS reports from scotland that grey squirrels will be shot on sight 'in the borders' !
a/t the BBC the grey squirrels are too much of a competition for the red squirrels , so the grey ones will be hunted down ... and no pardon will be given !
animal lovers fear "a carnage" will take place .

...DON"T BE A GREY SQUIRREL !...
There are two grey squirells in my environs. There may well be more.
If anybody comes on my land to shoot them they will have to get past me either by subterfuge or force.
I'm glad, those grey "tree rats" haven't arrived (yet) here - we only have normal, regular European squirrels here, like this one, like outside our home:
How could anybody shoot that little thing just because it's grey.
I agree, Spendy.
It ruins all the fun for my Greyhound.
Gray, black--we've got enough to keep the dogs occupied . . . i've never seen a red squirrel, though. Not that i'd want to see wanton squirrel carnage just for a notional opportunity in the future to see one . . .
A squirrel has chewed away half my bird feeder adn run off with the lid from it so Im edging towards shooting them.
That's an argument for shooting you MG.
Or do you subscribe to the anti-evolutionary argument that man has dominion over the animals like some others seem to do.
In the eastern U.S. grey and red squirrels co-exist--and always have.
We have lots of acorns.

If we are talking dominion most of this planet is covered by water so sealife rules this world.
I wouldnt argue with a whale that has a gun!Maybe a water pistol, brrrrr tshhh, thank you im here all week.
We have white squirrels in Austin. And the population is growing.
evil looking eye on that squirrel
That's a bit anthropomorphic dunciad practitioner.
Surely all animals are "evil" by our standards anyway. Fancy copulating without having gone through the appropriate religious ceremony. That's disgusting.
All the europeans I know who have come stateside (and there have been quite a few) have LOVED our grey squirrels!

Do they prefer them with mustard or hot sauce?
They prefer to shoot them. With a camera. And they make ridiculous little noises and squeels of delight. Sometimes they drool. We have red, grey, black, and white squirrells 'round here.
Ah, a multicultural squirrel community. Gotta love it.
Yes. But, the greys are definitely prominent.
I didn't see any squirrels for years on end, living as I did in the beach city, Venice, California, but having lived in childhood in squirrelville, Evanston, Illinois. First time I saw one in Venice I was elated. Soon I had a yard pal, yammering at me to not prune/shape the Agonis flexuosa trees, and to get my grubby hands off the Westringia.
I hear they are pests, but not in my own area of experience.
Squirrels provide endless entertainment and exercise for the little doggies. I'm all in favor of squirrels, so long as they ain't stealin' from the littlel birdies . . .
