Yes, very well done George.

Fbaezer, may I ask if five players are to be chosen for the final four matches?

My five for the final round are......

1. Podolski
2. Henri
3. Toni
4. Klose
5. Ribery

I was going to choose Maniche and Ronaldo, but was afraid that they would dive in order to achieve their goals, and I would hate to win on that basis.

Bring it on.............

<thanks>

France must be favourites now after their terrific performances against Spain and, especially, Brazil.

I'd really love to see Zidane go out on a high. And he did score twice in the final of '98, not to mention the winner in the Champions League final.

So:

Zidane
Podolski
Henry
Pauleta (hat trick in the 3rd place play-off!)
Toni (will match Pauleta's feat!)

Hopefully, the semis and final will be equally as exciting as this thread!!

Klose (because he can't help scoring)
Henry (a fitting end to a stellar career)
Ronaldo (sooner or later he has to deliver on his promise)
Ballack (my dark horse)
Totti (the Italian flying squad will give him at least a couple of penalties)

my guys:

Klose. Opportunistic
Zizou. On fire
Henry. Terrific player
Podolski. Klinsi loves him
Toni. He might score

And now, though no one asked me, my predictions:
Italy-Germany will be a really close game, probably will end in a 2-2 and will be defined on PK.
Portugal France will be a great game, if Zizou plays as beautiful as vs. Brazil it will be even nicer and they'll beat the lusitans.
Germany will beat France in the final, but I hope it will be super nice game.
Portugal will beat the disilussioned italians in a yet another amazingly boring game by the portuguese for the 3rd place.

On your predictive form that means Italy v Portugal in the final!

Who would have thought that a few weeks ago? I still can't believe that neither Argentina or Brazil are in the semis.

Hmm, birdbrain picked a midfielder for one of her fantasy strikers - that comes from looking at lists without knowledge. However, birdbrain's choice, Pirlo, did get player of the match on the FIFA site.

I wouldn't stress osso - who would have picked Grosso (Italy's left fullback) to score - and brilliantly...., and I don't think anyone had del Piero.

If no one gets any points in this round do we have a penalty shoot out to decide the winner?

Pirlo was (and is) an excellent pick, osso.
He had a better chance to score today than so-called strikers Toni and Gilardino. And was much much closer than Klose.

All this as I sing "aleé-o-o... aleé-o-o"

It seems that I'm quite "jynxed", my girlfriend is starting to bet on the opposite team that I believe will win. If my streak goes on she might get rich!

...nor I can believe that Portugal made it to the semis; nor the germans -yes, the germans- believed that they would made it to this level.
