It amazes me msolga how well you eat being a single person. When I was single, I might have a bowl of cereal for dinner occassionally but for the most part, I ate Stouffer's and other frozen dinner-type things. You actually cook! Good for you. Smile

Why, thank you, eoe!
But, there are the off nights, too, you know! More often than I'm comfortable with! Embarrassed
The thing is, I'm not wealthy enough to eat well while eating out at the same time! And that's what keeps me tied to the stove & the kitchen bench!
(And speaking of eating good bought food, Mrs Himalaya's little cafe has closed! Shocked Sad An excellent place for an exhausted woman to pick up a good, home-style curry & veg on rice on the way home! I am bereft! Gone, it is, probably to make way for some trendy establishment!)

These days I tend to completely ignore my flashier cookbooks & rely almost solely on the cheaper, quick & healthy ones. The ingredients are ALL & the simpler the preparation & cooking process the better! If I can whizz it, wok it, cook it in just one pot, freeze it, throw lots of herbs from the garden in for flavour, then I'm very happy! Very Happy

Tonight I had breakfast for dinner. Waffles and trukey sausage. Not the healthiest, but it was comfort food.

And why not, Swimpy?
You can save tonight's cooked dinner for tomorrow's breakfast!

I hope your meal had the desired effect. Comfort, I mean. Very Happy

back from class

raaaaaaavenous

thank goodness something was planned and ready to go

grilled burger with sauteed mushrooms and onions - under a bath of leftover spaghetti sauce, a couple of handfuls of greek salad greens with feta and avocado slices - a drizzle of sauce over that too

the pit is filled for now

having a cup of re-heated tea to settle for the evening

Last night I had a chicken tikka marsala dish with brown rice and peas, from Trader Joes. It needed more chicken.

Feeling slightly homesick- so something from my home-
potatoe fritter with craneberry sauce, apple sauce and pumpernickel.

Now, don't tell me they where you're from real pumpernickel - some Schwarzbrot, right.

(Which is ideal for a Kottenbotter  )

YES- I received a "Care-Package" today from home. Real Pumpernickel from my uncle's bakery, Apfelkraut, Altbier, Rheinische Schnibbelbohnen, geräuchterte Mettwurst. Very Happy
Had already lunch with Kottenbutter- minus the mustard.
Sorry, can't translate these regional treats.

Just what are you two talking about? All very mysterious!

Me, well tonight I tried to recreate a Moghrabiah dish I had years ago. (From memory. Ha!)

In case you don't know, Moghrabriah is a North African-inspired dish ... little balls of cous cous-like grainish things, with other ingredients added.

You cook the Moghrabia, then add it to other goodies - I was trying to recreate one with lightly fried onions, chicken & chick peas. About 20 years ago at Lebanese House in the city I thought it was fabulous!

Anyway, my dish was not exactly the same as the original. But I had fun cooking it. For flavouring I threw in a bit of cumin, a bit of coriander, a bit of cardamon powder, a bit of roasted chilli - "educated guesses" on the sorts of spices one might find in a Nth African dish. (About which I knew nothing when I was addicted to the restaurant version!)

Anyway, I declare my effort as "not too bad". Not to die for, but not a dismal failure either. Somewhere in between.

(ps ... if anyone knows of a decent Moghrabia recipe, I'd be very interested! Couldn't find one resembling what I was looking for on the internet.)

Laughing

It was merely a 5/10, Swimpy!

Thanks for the encouragement, anyway!

But hang on, you're coming over here to cook for me! That was the deal, remember?

And nobody comes to cook for me. Sigh.

So something quick: trouts, fresh potatoes, lettuce and rhasberries with ice cream.

ul, I can't touch you. (Not sure how that's going to translate, but it's a complement.)

Olga, If you get me there, I'll cook up a storm.

Right then, I'm saving up my pennies, Swimpy!

Ul, for a quick meal that was pretty damn good! I might hire you, too!

So we're the only ones eating dinner, the past few day?
Looks like the rest of A2K is dieting, or maybe fasting, at the moment, yes?

Ah, of course!
(I thought it was over now? Confused)

Thanks for clearing that one up for me, dadpad! Very Happy

..... so, have you been eating anything lately? Or enjoying a spring "cleansing" diet or fast, perhaps?
