Now I'm addicted to roasted veggies.

I hear ya, sista. It's my new religion. I worship at the church of the roasted vegetable.

Fennel, for example. Well, lots of folks don't like it, too sweet and licorice-y. But roasted, it's sort of a chewy delicious snack.. to me. A little goes a long way in a soup, though.

I had some cooked romaine lettuce at a restaurant a couple of months ago. I can't remember if it was grilled or roasted. Anyway, it was delicious, with whatever was it was dressed with. I'll see if I can find a link, as I might have saved the menu on my computer later.

Must have been grilled romaine.
Here's a recipe from foodnetwork.com, though not with whatever the dressing was at the Indigo Crow restaurant.

Grilled romaine with balsamic vinegar

Wonder how it would be roasted for a short time..

We threw a potroast on the grill yesterday. In the rain. Using some of the barbecue sauce that my brother left last week. It was very delicious with corn on the cob, baked beans, potato wedgies and a salad.
yum...

Last night I made the family favorite baked salmon. It has a yummy honey mustard glaze topped with pecans and bread crumbs. We started with roasted pumpkin soup. Sides were Caesar (sort of) salad and rice pilaf.

I miss real fresh fish. There are fish shops here, but fish bought at a pier tastes so much better than the one I can buy here.

Beef Stroganoff- the reason he married me.

Spinach -Feta-Strudel with a creamy herb sauce.

OK, osso, I'll bite. How did you end up with purple stroganoff?

ul, I'm landlocked, too. Fish market fish is still better than frozen.

It was lonnnnnnnng ago. It had something to do with the red wine I added and something to do with sour cream. Perhaps too much of one or the other or the specific red wine? This must've been something like 1967 - a time without quite the array of wine possibilities in the local market as now. I haven't even looked at a stroganoff recipe in years, though I do like daubes and braised dishes like ossobuco. Stroganoff is a simmering dish, isn't it?

I also was really just beginning to cook up a storm, hard to tell what stupid thing I might have done.
I'll look it up and be back.

Yup. I see those recipes that call for any alcohol mention sherry or cognac, not red wine. Maybe I substituted that, and the red wine and the sour cream gave me a nice pinky-maroon gravy...
I haven't added sour cream to a red wine sauce since, in any case..

Remember Calamity Jane's photo of herring with beets, that nice bright purpley pink?

Dinner prepared in a hurry after arriving home late: A piece of fish (monk fish, I think?) baked in tin foil with a bit of lemon juice. Some steamed potatoes with a little butter & chives sprinkled over. A LOT of steamed broccoli, because I had a broccoli craving. And, for no good reason apart from feeling like it, slivers of toasted almonds thrown over the broccoli.

It amazes me msolga how well you eat being a single person. When I was single, I might have a bowl of cereal for dinner occassionally but for the most part, I ate Stouffer's and other frozen dinner-type things. You actually cook! Good for you. Smile

Yes, impressive, all of you people.

I made fresh pesto last night from a vast quantity of fresh basil from a friend's garden... the pesto itself was wonderful, but the recipe called for too little of it compared to the pasta, IMO. Could barely taste it. I have two more portions frozen, will use both next time.

Leeks frizzled in tarragon-infused white wine vinegar, garlic, and celery seeds, then celery chunks steamed briefly in the covered pan with the leeks, then combined with red kidney beans and diced red pepper over a bed of romaine lettuce, drizzled with lime juice and red wine vinegar.

Not bad for no animal bits.

I remember having spaghetti with pesto at a restaurant in Sonoma - when it arrived I could hardly see the spaghetti for the green. It was delicious! When I do it, I don't add quite as much as that, but apparently more than your recipe, soz.
