Last night, Setanta and I went to The Prince of Egypt for dinner after I was finished with bellydance class.

Great feast - falafel, taboulleh, stuffed grape leaves, baba ghanoush, hummus, an amazing avocado salad with balsamic dressing, and a shawerma wrap. Oooooooof, that was good.

Tonight, I went out for dinner with Bru66 (a very occasional poster here). We went to a local chinese bbq house to sit and chat and look at about 400 Shocked of the photos he took when he joined his sister and her husband on a trip to China when they adopted a beautiful baby girl. I had the three meat on rice special - duck, pork and steamed chicken - bok choy and lots of garlic ginger sauce on the side. Oooooooooooof, again.

Oatmeal tomorrow.

Gnocchi shell pasta with olive oil, roasted garlic sliced and mushied around, bit of chili flakes, something like 3/4 cup of basil scissored to wee bits, bunch of pine nuts, and a handful of grated parmigiano reggie. Good.

The Middle Eastern stuff sounds fabulous, ehBeth. There was one place just down the block from where I lived and a whole other place about 6 blocks from where I worked in L.A. that were absolutely amazingly incredibly delicious (Middle Eastern food, one with an Armenian slant and one with a Lebanese slant) -- I really miss that. Haven't found anything comparable here yet.

Jumping back to grilled romaine lettuce - I was cleaning, urp!, and found the menu for the Indigo Crow restaurant over in Corrales (I couldn't find anything online about the menu the other day.) Many good things on that menu, but, I did find the specifics, sort of, for the dressing on the grilled lettuce -

Romaine lettuce, lightly grilled with tomatoes topped with gorgonzola cheese and vodka vinaigrette.

Well, I knew it tasted good...

(I like middle eastern food too... there might be one place here.)

Last night I dined on meatloaf in an amazing mushroom gravy. I also had veggies but they were, you know, veggies.

It's a beautiful Fall day here in the Heartland! I've got French bread proofing on the counter. Tonight I'm going to make ravioli, a tossed Caesaresque salad and, of course, French bread.

The Iowa v. Ohio State football game is on tonight. Go Hawks! Life's pretty good.

You inspire me, Swimpy. I haven't made my own bread in a few years, and just bought yeast the other day. Unfortunately, my local market doesn't carry the flours I use most, grrrr. I use a mix of semolina and unbleached white with a starter...

Guess I'll make a trip to another market..

Osso, I'd love your recipe. I have some semolina hanging around the house.

I made an unexpected masterpiece tonight. Red chile tortillas with melted, cheddar cheese, 2 fried eggs (in olive oil) and steamed asparagus liberally doused with enchilada sauce. Yum!

nothing special about dinner tonight, but lunch today was great

a co-worker brought in some food his sister-in-law had made for a party, the sister in law is greek and the brother is iraqi, so the plate he brought me contained roasted chicken, some spicy rice dish of some kind, stuffed grape leaves, tabouhli salad and greek salad

wonderful

I'd been watching those 2 silverbeet (Swiss chard) plants growing like crazy in my backyard as a result of the big heap of mushroom I've composting right next to them. Surprised Thought I should cook some quickly while the leaves looked so vividly green & healthy. So I found a very simple soup recipe: Add chicken stock to some gently fried onion & a little garlic, throw in a cup of risoni* & cook for about 8 minutes .... then, throw in lots of chopped silverbeet leaves & cook for a few more minutes. How easy is that? Great peasant food! Very Happy

*Little pasta thingies shaped like rice.

For lunch (with mother and aunt) we had - it's autumn now  -barbarie duck brest today, traditionally done, with red cabbage (cooked with apples) and little potatoe dumblings.

(Tonight, we'll eat out since some friends of my wife are staying with us).

Lazy day here.
Yesterday we had guests, so I prepared onion cakes to go with the Sturm ( fermented grape juice-seasonal).

Styrian salad for tonight.

Sounds good, ul! Zwiebelkuchen und Suser it is called here :-)

I am taking tomorrow off so I will go to La Pergola for dinner and will most likely have some nice pasta. How exciting - considering I had pasta on Thursday evening in Sweden, on Friday evening in La Pergola und last night at home. Cappellini with tomato sauce, it's the best!

I've got a pork roast to prepare for tonight. Tiny new potatoes, sweet onions and carrots are going into the pan with the roast. Green and yellow beans are ready to be cooked as well. Mulling what other veggies to prepare.

Also mulling about what to make for Thanksgiving next week. Definitely roast chicken and butternut squash soup, but what else?

For Thanksgiving you already have poultry and some vegetables.
Some fish ( freshwater) or other seafood- like smoked trout on lettuce or a prawn cocktail to start your dinner
More veggies: roots ( carrots, white turnips), greens- broccoli, beans,
glazed chestnuts, chestnut puree,
fruit - either fresh or as little cakes.

No cooking today Very Happy - I am a single tonight.
