All your home-cooked dinners sound like restaurant fare to me! (How do you do it, night after night? It's a mystery to me. Confused )

... so I'm not revealing what I ate tonight! You'd consider it peasant food - of the non-trendy variety! And you'd be right! Sad

Why don't you hire a cook, Olga, who can prepare restaurant-like delicacies for you everyday?

Oh, I would, spider, if I was ultra-wealthy, but, unfortunately ........ Laughing

(Actually, I've offered Swimpy a (not-so-financially-lucrative) chef's position many a time! But sadly she's not available! Too busy cooking gorgeous feasts at home, I'm afraid!)

Apart from that, I rather like cooking ..... but I have discovered darkest winter is not my most inspired time! A rather droopy time, to be honest.

msolga-
in darkest winter and working all day -I know what you mean, at least not my time to be creative. Then I cook just because there are people here screaming for dinner.
Just give it a fancy name

Like á la maison, old fashioned ( here add any nationality) potroast, á la nonna soup.

Tonight dumplings made with cottage cheese and filled with apricots.

Oh my, those cottage cheese dumplings filled with apricots sound delicious! You, my dear, are a very creative cook!

Not creative at all- very common here.
Not my favorite- I don't like sweets. Just for my Austrian family

What about a saffron risotto for you? Winterfood- and so pretty yellow- might brighten the evening.

Hmmmm ... I'm too tired for all that stirring! Really! Laughing

But speaking of rice, a friend made a wonderfully delicious & simple rice-based soup ("congee"- a Vietnamese version) on the weekend. It had heaps of (raw) greens/herbs thrown in at the last minute. It was terrific! I think I'll have a go at making that tomorrow. Tonight I was experimenting with another of those mysterious (to me) greens that have been appearing at the market & the greengrocers' shops this week ... quite nice actually.

Last night I did a jerked pork loin, on the grill, with roast carrots and garlic, served with rice and a few green beans.

You think I cook night after night? HA! I just don't post when I eat peanut butter and jelly, which I do a lot.

I just can't help feeling amused. All of us are gearing up for a special dinner tonight. Mom's in good mood and will serve out the South Indian Idlies coupled with Sambhar and Coconut sauce. Wow!

I had some scrambled eggs a few minutes ago. Just to be daring, I threw in a few pieces of sliced green pepper. I also put salt and pepper on the top.

Quite good.

It turns out a woman I knew in my childhood as being my friends' little sister in kindergarden, when I was in eighth grade, lives in Albuquerque, and her daughter got married this last weekend, thus the premise for an old childhood friends' family reunion here. They invited me to dinner this evening, where we caught up on some of those years between. Well, it was easy to break the ice. One of them looked worried at me when one of their children made a slur about George Bush. I laughed. Everybody relaxed.

Anyway, dinner was spinach salad, fresh corn on the cob, couscous with walnuts and dried fruit, roast lamb au jus, some California wine I brought, and for dessert, brownies and peach ice cream. Good dinner, good family.
Weird meeting people 50 years later and recognizing them and their mannerisms easily.
