Laughing Dorothy P, I'm gonna send you some vitamin pills! It's certainly not that I disapprove of your no frills/no fuss dinners, I just want to make sure you stay well enough to keep writing!

Tonight I had a salad with lettuce and spinach with more of that pico de gallo, ranch dressing and Monterey Jack cheese on top. I also through some burgers in a pan. I just put salt and pepper on them and eat 'em without a bun. On the side, some oven fried sweet potato strips. I'm full.

Well, I made a super speedy (rapido, even! Surprised ) "spicey fish chowder". I discovered this oldish recipe while looking through many cookbooks, hoping to find something vaguely different to cook last night. Garlic, tomatoes, oregano, parsley (no basil in the dead of winter Sad ), cayenne pepper, a bit of wine & fresh fillets of fish. Not bad, not bad .... though I suspect a true expert at chowders (which I would love to learn more about!) might scoff.

That sounds really good, Olga. I always think of chowder as a creamy soup made with milk, but I don't know if it has to be. Manhattan clam chowder has a tomato base, so there's at least one exception.

I often make a fish soup like that, msolga, sounds good. I made a vegetable noodle soup today - tomatoes, one red potato, carrots, celery, onions, garlic, one porcini mushroom, olive oil, some italian spices, some cut up linguini, some vegie broth. Threw in some cheddar cheese...

Uh, not in that order..

I'm going to make the creamy one next, Swimpy. The next time I fancy a fishy dinner, I mean. Last night I just felt like a bit of spice & tang! BTW this recipe was not from an impeccable culinary source  so I'm delighted it was so quick & turned out reasonably well! I'm now inspired to go check out some more "advanced" chowder recipes online. It's one of those mysterious areas of the unknown to me (not living in the US) like "gumbo" or "hoppin John" Laughing .... they sound interesting, folk rave about them, but you're not quite certain what they actually are!

I love New England clam chowder, and had some the other day - just divine! (not my own though)

Today, we had plain pasta with olive oil and sun dried tomatoes.

I'm very interested in this chowder thing!
Should I start a thread & milk the A2K culinary chowder expertise, do you think?

That's how I feel about Indian food. It sounds really interesting, but I haven't been exposed to enough of it to know what it's supposd to taste like.

You'll have to visit Oz, Swimpy! So much Indian food available (ranging from great to mediocre). I love the stuff & have made it a mission in life to learn to cook it (as best I can)! Oh how I would love to be in India right now!

chowder always scared me - ANYTHING could be lurking in there! Brrrr. I am just becoming able to eat corn chowder.

Tonight: salad greens with tuna salad, a big chunk of sesame tofu, some peas and feta and a wedge of sweet potatoe (grocery store salad bar) and a pre-cut tub of blueberries, pineapple and kiwi. With water and white wine.
