@jcboy,
Looks a lot better than my chicken gizzards in hot sauce. Sad

@FBM,
terrific non-veggie combo platter with injera at an Ethiopian restaurant a few blocks from home

___

a bit disconcerting to look it up on yelp a few minutes ago - and to find a photo of myself with a friend - the photo was taken by someone who was there tonight - posted but no review. so odd.

@ehBeth,
I am noticing a lot of people on yelp doing pics only, sometimes with word overlay. Not sure what to make of it...I am tempted to call laziness but I use the pics more than the reviews, maybe these people also dont value the reviews.

@hawkeye10,
I'd get it if it was a pic of the food they ordered. I'm not sure how a pic of me and Max chatting at the bar adds anything to anyone's understanding of the place.

@ehBeth,
I was thinking of going to the market and buying a nice roasting chicken for dinner tonight but the kids always want the drum sticks so I might as well just buy a package of chicken legs instead Cool

@jcboy,
Had dinner with a N. Korean refugee tonight at a fried chicken joint. We chose the "spiciest" item on the menu, but there was nothing particularly spicy about the chicken sauce. Instead, it had sliced local chilies stir-fried(?) in as an after-thought and jalapenos (so glad Korea finally found out about them) on the side. The local chilies: https://www.google.co.kr/search?q=%EC%B2%AD%EC%96%91%EA%B3%A0%EC%B6%94&newwindow=1&safe=off&biw=1024&bih=635&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=o79YVZ_-AcPYmgWYqoHYBA&ved=0CBsQsAQ Not the hottest in the world, but enough to make me hiccup, which is when I know that they've made the mark.

@jcboy,
have you seen the fun recipe where you sew extra chicken legs onto a roast chicken?

I've done it a couple of times. It makes all those chicken lovers happy - and most laugh when they first see it.

(it's not so much a recipe as instructions)

Eight-Legged Chicken

Recipe By : James Barber's Immodest but Honest Good Eating Cookbook
Serving Size : 8 Preparation Time :0:00
Categories : Volume 12-05 May 2009

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
1 large chicken -- or capon
[turkey won't work]
6 chicken legs
Cotton thread or string

Mr. Barber says you have to prepare this early before the guests arrive and
try not to drink too much booze while you are doing it. He suggests this is
best served in a dimly lit room so people can't see the stitches and it
will make quite an impression when you bring the bird to the table.

Preheat the oven to 400F (200C).

Using the cotton thread, sew the extra chicken legs to the chicken - 3 legs
on each side.

Don't overstuff the chicken. Just put a little bit of chopped lemon and
some garlic or some chopped onions and a bit of thyme or some lemon juice
and tarragon in the cavity. Rub the chicken well with salt; the salt makes
the skin crispy. Roast the chicken in a hot oven basting every 15 minutes
with melted butter and/or pan juices until the chicken is cooked and nicely
browned.

@ehBeth,
That does look like fun, I need to try that next time, they would get a kick out of it Cool

The Rican is making dinner tonight. He has a bacon wrapped pork loin in the oven. He’s serving it with mashed potatoes and peas. Razz

@jcboy,
I ate one of my burritos a while ago. Good for sure but now it's time to make and freeze some more. Manana. This time I'll use a lentil mix I cooked up instead of beans, and some sausages/greens/cheese/chile peps.

This is our first Holiday weekend with all of us together so we're going out to dinner tonight just not sure where yet.

Next Holiday weekend, 4th of July we're all flying to Miami so they can meet Grandma.

@ehBeth,
It's Antonio's turn, but he's use to it so it really doesn't matter to him anymore, not the other two, they can't wait to choose Cool

Cajun red beans and rice with pork chunks instead of sausage (forgot to pick up sausage). It was from a box, but that's the best I can get over here. Perked it up with some local chili oil.

@FBM,
Burrito making time in the old messy kitchen: this may turn out oddly, what with a dash of ginger and lime and cilantro in the brown lentil mix I cooked; will report.*** Instead of my usual ital sausage (mild or hot) or leftover roast pork, this will be grocery store brats, and madagascar pink cooked rice, and bits of mild cheese (asadero). Tomato sauce? dunno, probably not. Maybe I should add some scrambled egg. Or the prev sauteed white stems of bok choy. Taste explosion.

Meantime I'll have one of my remaining ordinary burritos since I'm hungry already.

*** I'll taste those lentils again first. I may have to punt and add some white beans I found in the freezer instead.
Did that, the ginger is v. mild, it'll be ok.

@ossobuco,
Lentils with grape tomatoes, feta and cilantro - along with some baguette.
Hearty meal for a rainy day - much welcome and needed rain.

All this about lentils has given me a craving. Now I just gotta figure out how to satisfy it...

Looking up the page, re Beth's mention of Ethiopian food, nuts, I haven't had ethiopian food since L.A., sigh.

Here's that lentil recipe:

Eh, limes were what I had on hand.
