I'm cooking something with lentils and lots of veggies. Not quite sure where this is going to end up.

sausages? veggies only?

@ehBeth,
well that worked out well

Saturday night after too much shovelling meant a cheat meal

a can of rustic lentil soup (good on its own)
a can of stewed tomatoes with Italian seasonings
a container of cutup veggies meant for butternut squash soup
mushrooms
chopped up cheddar smokie sausages
that was a hell of a good soup

the butternut squash soup veggies are the best

I use them so often - makes many dishes easier to prepare

I'm starting my chicken and sausage gumbo now, I'll also be making a strawberry cobbler for dessert.

@jcboy,
I’ve just taken my strawberry cobbler out of the oven. This is the first cobbler I’ve made, doesn’t look too appealing but sure smells good.

Has to cool a while then we can have it after din din.

I treated two NK refugees to a meal of lamb kebabs, chicken curry, lentil soup, that flat bread that I can't remember the name of, and rice at a restaurant called "Dubai," in Itaewon, the part of Seoul with the most foreign restaurants. It was the first experience of middle eastern cuisine for all of us. The verdict split between the refugees, one "pretty good," the other "pretty bad." I gave it a "close enough, but bloody expensive for not much more than mediocre food."

Leftover pizza, but one of my favorites - my take on NickiV's pizza Milano-

Neopolitan pizza crust, monterey jack cheese, roasted red balsamic onions, pine nuts. Maybe some chile pepper flakes this time.
Some sicilian red wine, Nero d'Avola.

@ossobuco,
My beef stew came out fabulous.

My little family had second helpings! That's always a good sign they liked it.

@CalamityJane,
I still have them, but I bought some new dishes as well. Bowls for soups and stews.

I've been looking for some new china for dinner, haven't found anything I like yet. Smile

One of the North Korean refugees I'm tutoring made dinner for me and some of the others in the Teach North Korean Refugees organization. The first time any of the rest of us had ever tried North Korean cuisine. They're northern versions of dishes that we have here in the South.

If anybody's interested, I'll link to some descriptions of what they are.

@ehBeth,
Uh-oh. I may have promised more than I can deliver. There is no English page for this one: https://www.google.co.kr/search?q=%EC%9D%B8%EC%A1%B0%EA%B3%A0%EA%B8%B0%EB%B0%A5&newwindow=1&safe=off&biw=1024&bih=635&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=WFnvVM-_NYPu8gXwooD4Bw&sqi=2&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ

But there is for this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sundae_(Korean_food)

No English page for this one, either: https://www.google.co.kr/search?q=%EB%91%90%EB%B6%80+%EC%B4%88%EB%B0%A5&newwindow=1&safe=off&biw=1024&bih=635&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=j1nvVPypG4Sf8QXx-oK4Bw&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ But it's tofu stuffed with rice. They sell tofu in big blocks over here. The refugee said that first you press/drain (?) the water out of the tofu, then cut it into squares. Lightly fry them in a little oil. Cut the squares in half to make triangles, then slice one side to make a pocket. Stuff rice (and whatever seasonings they use) into the pocket.

The other things (the ones that looks like they have a tail) are made from corn instead of tofu. The only difference is that there is no oil involved.

@ossobuco,
Huh. I got confusinated about that one. I thought it was the 인조고기밥, but now I see that it's not. Anyway, it has a slightly sweet taste. There's rice inside, so I think the sweetness comes from the wrap. But I haven't been able to figure out what the wrap is made of. I'll meet her again next week and ask for details. She's a real sweetheart. When she hears that people are interested in her cooking, she'll be floored. I guarantee it.

Mirin? I doubt it. The North Koreans hate everything Japanese even more than the South Koreans, and that's saying something! Wink
