@Dutchy,
The first year I was on A2K---about a month after I joined---we were greeting with a dancing hamster where everybody's avatars used to be. I exited and re-entered A2K. I exited and reloaded AOL. I cleaned my internet cache. I ran a scan on my virus program. I rebooted the computer several times trying to get rid of those dang hamsters. Then somebody reminded me what day it was Smile

Anyhow for dinner tonight it was a teriyaki stir fry of thinly sliced beef, sugar snaps and other assorted veggies over rice, and fresh cantaloupe that was excellent for this early in the season. Yum.

@ossobuco,
Thanks. I do like sugar snaps and being raised southern, blackeyed peas are a great favorite at our house. Debating whether I'm up to handling a garden this year.

@Foxfyre,
I tried to replicate the Mexican Pizza Taco bell serves. I did it with quite a success.

@ossobuco,
Last night I had two fried eggs, a baked sweet potato and baked beans. Strange combination, but the flavors seemed to work together.

@hamburger,
Last night we had our once-a-week house specialty of fried chicken--actually a few little chicken wing drummettes battered and fried--sooooo good--but balanced with hash browns, fresh fruit and fresh turnip greens.

Tonight I made broccoli & bacon soup. With equal amounts of broccoli & potato cooked in chicken stock. One of those smoothed-with-the-whizzer soups, with the crunchy fried bacon & onion stirred in at the last minute, along with a couple of tablespoons of chopped mint. Served with some buttered sourdough bread on the side. Not bad!

@msolga,
I went to The Noodle Bowl with Brendalee last night. We had a lonnnnng concert last night - Bach's St. Matthews Passion - started at 7:30 p.m., we got out of the church after 11 p.m. We needed to stoke our fires in advance. Instead of my usual soup, I ordered the Singapore Style Chicken Fried Rice. Delicious, but I couldn't finish my order. Brought about half of it home with me.

The slow cooker's working over some pork side ribs right now. Should be ready in about 8 hours.

@msolga,
msOlga - that sounds wonderful! I picked up some really nice-looking broccoli yesterday - your soup would be perfect for tomorrow - especially as it's supposed to snow - and soup is snow food Very Happy

@ehBeth,
It was pretty good, ehBeth. Would you like the recipe? (Though it's pretty simple, really)

Yes, I imagine soup is just perfect for snowy weather!

@msolga,
Recipe? like an actual real recipe Shocked

I always thought you cooked like I do - a handful of this, 2 good-sized pieces of that, whatever is left of that, a double handful of this, as much as fit on the cutting board of that Laughing

I had a hard time adjusting to Set's requests for recipes for things - other than baked good/pastries (which are more science than art) - I hadn't used a 'real' recipe in ages before he arrived here.

hmmm, then again, Set will be on kitchen duty tomorrow afternoon - so ... yes, please I would LOVE the recipe!

Thank you, Dahling Witch.

@ehBeth,
Nah, trust me, I need recipes, ehBeth! My more spontaneous efforts tend to be .. er .. "interesting"! Something to do with being a late-learner in the arts of the kitchen, I think! Wink

So here you go, an easy peasy recipe, especially for the Doggy Person!:

BROCCOLI & BACON SOUP:

* I onion, chopped
* 4 rashers bacon, rind removed, chopped
* 400g potatoes, peeled & diced
* 1 litre chicken stock
* 400g broccoli, chopped
* 2 tablespoons chopped mint
* Sea salt & cracked pepper

- Place onion & bacon in a large saucepan over medium-high heat.
- Cook for 5 minutes, or till well-browned.
- Remove onion & bacon from the saucepan & set aside.
- Put potatoes & stock into the same pan. Bring to the boil & add broccoli & cook till potaoes & broccoli are soft.
- place soup in a blender or use stick mixer to blend till smooth.
- Add onion & bacon, mint, salt & peeper & mix to combine.
- Serve!

How easy is that! Very Happy

@msolga,
That looks perfect for the Doggy Person. I suspect he know where all the ingredients are, except for the mint. I'll go into the yard and chop off a bit if it's up already.

Thank you!
