@Tai Chi,
Ah thanks, Tai. That seems very do-able! (& I like turning "letovers" into something else. It makes me feel virtyous! Laughing ) I'm going to give it a go, the next cold snap! (Where I live that could be tomorrow! Really)

No, I'm not familiar with mutton-based scotch broth, either, Tai. I grew up eating eastern European food at home, almost exclusively .... then I was a very late convert to the joys of cooking. Still learning, as you can gather! Wink

Tonight: I'm supposed to be doing something wonderful with a loin of pork, marinated in all sorts of fabulous stuff for most of the day, before being cooked on the barby tonight. One small problem, though: I found the recipe earlier in the week & made my shopping list from it. Bought the stuff yesterday. But can I find the recipe again? (No clever come-backs about leaving the cake out in the rain, please! Razz ) I'm looking, I'm looking ... which bloody cookbook was it, again????? Confused

@Dutchy,
Ah thanks, possum. (Helpful & thoughtful, always! Smile )

But, having driven myself around the bend (sitting on the back veranda, leafing through all the cookbooks the recipe could be in ....! Rolling Eyes ) I've stumbled across a recipe that's similar to what I'd planned. But not quite the same, mind ...... with a marinade of hoisin sauce, honey, Chinese cooking wine & 5 spice powder.

Off to make the marinade now, so I can finally head off & do some shopping.

Thanks again, Dutchy!

How was your Friday night fish?

@msolga,
Peace & order restored! Marinade is now marinating away .....

Looks like this may be an oven-cooked job rather than the barby ... with steamed rice & maybe beans or broccoli on the side. Sounds OK. I'll report back later ....

@msolga,
Sounding good, msolga..

Me, I'm having one of my homemade burritos that I do in groups and freeze.
This involves - in my case - a big tortilla, shortgrained brown rice, black beans, raw onions, ground beef with chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, and some bits of cheese, wrapped, tortilla casings lightly coated with olive oil, and baked for - I dunno - 40 minutes. They don't have to be baked at all, but I like to.
I'm very happy with them, but don't eat them every day.

Am working my way to skip the meat and do a spicy spinach addition instead. Stay tuned..

@msolga,
The pork was very tender cooked this way. And the broccoli was nicely chompy. Just as I like it. Hey, it was a pretty good dinner, actually! And very easy to cook.
Mind you, just about anything on steamed rice keeps me happy! Wink

@Endymion,
Yup, steamed rice! Surprised

(Actually, it's just rice cooked in the right amount of water in one of those rice cooker thingies - in my microwave. For some reason this is called steamed rice.)

@msolga,
I thought i was missing something there!
(actually i don't have a microwave)
I steam veggies - had visions for a moment of doing the same with rice.
I suppose it is a good idea for re-heating, because often if i fry to re-heat - the rice goes hard

thanks Wink

@Endymion,
No, you're not missing anything, Endy.

I guess it sort of steams in the water. And absorbs it all. I guess you could call it boiled rice, too! Wink

I love steamed vegies. Actually that is my favourite way of cooking potatoes & most greens of the crunchy variety. In my trusty double steamer. (on the stove top, not in the microwave!)
