But the waisteline, Dorothy, the waisteline!

Last night: a quickie effort: crumbed fish (from the freezer section of the supermarket), steamed baby potatoes, peas & grilled mushrooms.

Not exactly exciting. I've gotten rather lazy this summer, I'm afraid.

No snogs for you tonight Swimpy.

Last night I took my uncle out to Gaucho Grill.

We had cocktails, his was a Vodka Martini and mine was a strawberry and rasberry Mojito. No starters (bloody expensive in there) I had sirloin steak with baked potato and peppercorn sauce. My uncle had the rump steak with chips and blue cheese sauce. Grilled aparagus and those big mushrooms as side orders. Very nice indeed. Full of very posey people in there though.

With a forecast low of - 34 C tonight (with windchill making it feel like - 45 C) we felt like comfort food tonight. Meatloaf, scalloped potatoes and steamed green beans.

Things are looking up, though, with a forecast high of - 6 C for Thursday. We might just have to pull out the BBQ grill. Very Happy

Shocked

Your meal sounds delicious, mac, but I think perhaps the BBQ grill idea might be a wee bit hasty! Laughing

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr! How can you stand it? It'd be the death of me, I'm certain! Shocked

Soup time! Big soup time! Very Happy

McKenzie, I thought I was cold at -14 F! It does bring out the cook in me though. Last night we had baked chicken thighs that I coated with paprika, cayenne, garlic powder, salt & pepper; pan fried potatoes and onions and steamed broccoli.

Swimpy, it's not that much colder. -34 C is equal to about -26 F, but it's the windchill that's been causing the problem during this cold snap.

msolga, we have an attached garage that's insulated. The BBQ is in there, so we grill in all but the coldest weather. The guys move the BBQ so it's just outside the big doors, but still out of the wind, and it's not that uncomfortable. My son grilled a steak the other day and it was -17 C.

Literally freeze to death. I saw in the newspaper today that a man was found, frozen to death, in a field just outside the city.

Last night: (oven baked) falafel, a gigantic salad, pickled swedes (don't laugh - a Lebanese delicacy!) & a yoghurt dip.

Hot and spicy vegetable lentil soup. Perfect for the frigid weather we're having!

Yeah, it wasn't bad msolga, and there's lots leftover for lunches.

Tonight I baked pork chops on a bed of sauerkraut and squirted BBQ sauce over them. Sounds horrible, probably, but I ended up with a spicy sweet and sour sauce -- pretty good! Add scalloped potatoes and a salad and you've got a warming meal for a chilly night.

Tired, but starting to get my appetite back at the end of 10 days of antibiotics.

Tonight's spectacular - multi-grain savoury-seed crackers with hummus and tzatziki and a couple of chunks of Mennonite summer sausage

The dogs are doing quite well for themselves. I roasted turkey wings yesterday, and threw them in their chicken broth with some lamb stew meat cuttings. The broth for their kibble smells awesome!

My old standby, Linguine with clam sauce. Side of garlic stuffed green olives.

I tried something new tonight...I got this crumbled garden burger meat and made a spaghetti sauce and put the veggie crumble stuff in it. Poured that over al dente penne and grated fresh parmesan on top of that...I have to say - it was not half bad. Had a spinach salad with it and a small glass of chianti...can't say I wouldn't do it again...I was surprised to be perfectly honest.

Thinking, tomorrow I'll make a tomato soup with sardines in it and probably some chopped rapini stems. (hmm, sauteed onion and celery?) Add the leftover pasta and clam sauce to it at the minutes of simmering, plus some frozen leftover shrimp...

T'will be horrible or wonderful. We'll see.
