Fogo de Chao tonight. Lots and lots of tasty meat and a beautiful salad bar.

Just in case you don't have an idea about today's dessert:

I hope it tastes better than it looks, Walter. What a strange looking contraption! Why, why? Confused Laughing

A roast tonight & I managed to make one helluva mess in my tiny kitchen. Somehow, in between chopping the herbs & browning some onions for the stuffing, preparing then roasting the chook in the oven, preparing the potatoes, then the green beans, I managed to create a huge pile of stuff to wash. Was the meal worth the mess? Nah, not really (though my cat may disagree!). I think I'll be sticking to one pot wonders for a bit.

The trout was scrumptious but had waaaay too many bones. I haven't cooked whole trout for years, and don't remember them not being deboned. (the person behind the counter said they were..)

Actually, a trout is one of the fishes which is most easily to eat without the bones: just get the filets from the main bone and cut of head and fins.

Really?
I sort of enjoy it most of the time. When I'm not dog tired or really stretched for time. I guess it comes from being a late convert to cooking, which I avoided like the plague earlier in my adult life. Something misguided about not wanting to be "domesticated", or a "housewife". Silly, really. Now I actually find it a challenge to produce fairly healthy, interesting (I try! :wink: ), fast-ish food on a fairly tight budget. Never dreamed this would happen to me! Laughing

Last night I ordered a room service pizza. Wasn't expecting much, but boy was I wrong. The "Extravaganza" was a crisp, thinner crust pizza loaded with chicken, artichokes, sun dried tomatoes, kalamata olives, and mozzarella. It was supposed to be a 12" pie but it looked more like a 14+" pie. I somehow managed to eat 1/2 of it. Burp!!!

I guess I should point out that I am in Chicago right now, and the windy city does pizza right. On my jaunt to NYC last weekend, I didn't see a single piece of pizza worth eating - not even in Little Italy. My kind of town, Chicago is (well, except for a couple things I won't mention here).

Ha! you're in Chicago.

The best Thai food I've ever had was in Chicago - maybe you can get out and try some Sweet Chili Chicken :wink:

~~~
I'm with you on the New York pizza experience. People rave about it, but I've never found a New York slice that really excited me.
Chicago pizza is good stuff.
Somebody inspire me! I went on a barrage of experimentation a while ago, and found several things I liked, but have made each of those a bit too often and I'm getting bored. Tried getting back into experimentation mode, but last two attempts failed (one miserably, one eh).
Part of the problem is that it's been weirdly hot -- I've been craving fallish foods but it's 80's and 90's.
Simple, savory, and without too many exotic ingredients would be good.
Lay it on me...
Ha! I had Chicago pizza last night too -- Gino's East. A new one opened up near us recently and we went over to check it out. First one, that I know of, that's inside a hotel.
Well. we're back and we shopped all the way home: heirloom tomatoes at the farmer's market in Little Current (tiny black plum tomatoes so sweet they're like dessert), home made bread in Espanola, and discovered a real butcher shop around the corner from my son's new place in Sudbury (actually a "boucherie") and got some pork chops and pork-and-apple sausages. Dinner tonight will be an easy decision.
In the mood for junk food tonight: snags & mashed potatoes (bangers & mash to you UK folk :wink: ) & some steamed broccoli. LOTS of (Rosella)tomato sauce on the sausages. It was actually the tomato sauce hit that I craved. I will indulge in a very similar meal in about a year's time, when the craving returns!
Last night I had crab stuffed shrimp. To be honest, not that good. Neither the shrimp or the crab was all that sweet, and the shrimp were truly shrimp-sized.
are you still in chicago, cj? We went out to Bob Chinn's crabhouse the other night for Mr B's birthday. We were disappointed in the food and price. We used to love it there.
Dinner last night was everyone fend for themselves. I had a grilled ham-cheddar-turkey-swiss sandwich on whole wheat bread, Mr B had a grilled tomato, onion, cheddar sandwich on ww, M had pasta with chicken and broccoli, and K ate at a friend's house.
