Just finished cleaning up the kitchen after roasting a chicken with vegetables and baking a meatloaf. We're heading "up north" for a week tomorrow and while it's supposed to be unseasonably warm and we'll be able to BBQ, it's nice to have some protein cooked ahead so I can just toss it with rice or noodles. Mr. Fix-it is especially looking forward to meatloaf sandwiches. (So now you know what we'll be eating for the next few days anyway Very Happy .)

Yum yum, Tai Chai. Hmm, where ya going? I'm a little wee bit jealous you're going north ways.
Excited for you too.

Hmm, I did a weeks worth of cooking tonight too. For me, Mr. Man, and a few friends of mine who have a bit of a time getting proper meals cooked.

So had tidbits of all that for supper. Bits of turkey dinner, beef stir fry, an attempt at a shrimp dish. I'm getting better. lol.

Sounds like you had a smorgasbord mp!

We're heading to Manitoulin Island. If I can add fresh caught whitefish to my week's menu I'll be a happy camper.

I'm jealous. Sad

For me it's good ol pumpkin soup. Again. From the freezer. With buttered toast. Too tired to attempt anything more demanding tonight.

With Tai Chi's mention of meatloaf I was inspired to make some myself. Mmmmm, that's what I had last night, and I'm starting to think of a meatloaf sandwich right about now..

Osso, I imagine your meatloaf and it has me drooling. Bet it has all these Italian quirks to it, making it extra juicy and flavorful.

On a real food kick. God I love goat milk cheese. Stay away, oh cheese, so fattening but god so good.

My meatloaves vary with what's on hand... This one did have garlic and chile pepper and basil and "italian herbs", s & p, plus eggs and bread crumbs. I don't use low fat content beef, but at least 15%; sometimes add fresh hot ital sausage, or just ground pork. Usually pour some water or stock over the meatloaf in the dish before it bakes.

My favorite recipe, that I hardly ever make since I'm too lazy -

It was served at that restaurant with wonderful mashed potatoes and great spinach..

Seafood salad, Veal with Proscuttio and strawberry eyessa crreama.

The place was packed, noisy, hot and far too expensive.

Oh yum. I haven't tried it that way yet. I like the idea of adding a bit of sausage or pork to it.

Tonight I had fruit and salad . Simple spinach salad. And some so called light Rocky Road ice cream that was very good. As good as regular.

That is a nice surprise.

I've never cooked a meatloaf before, osso. I might try that one!

Tonight & last night: a big serve of lasagne. The first I've ever made using meat. (Not that I've made all that many different varieties before!) With cheesy white sauce layers & grated mozzarella on top. Not at all bad.

I had a girls' night out last night.

We went to Pan on the Danforth (partly because one of my dance teachers was performing).

I had a triple dip appetizer to start, with the chicken liver appetizer as my main. It was fabulous. The salad with the chicken livers was extraordinary, the liver was perfect, the pita was nice and garlicky, and the dips ... I had skordalia, hummus and melitzanosalata.

Sounds good ehbeth.

For dinner tonight I prepared a roast with potatoes and carrots, collard greens, mac and cheese and dinner rolls. We had guests and I was taken aback when neither of them ate much of what they put on their plates. Now, they did pig out on potato chips and dip while watching the football games but it would seem to me that if they weren't hungry, they would not have dished it up just to not eat it. Both have eaten here before and cleaned their plates.
I wanted to ask if something was wrong with the food but didn't feel that it would have been very gracious. Should I have asked? Would that have been rude? How else would you know? I don't like guessing games like this.

I don't know if it's rude to ask, eoe, but if this happened to me I'd certainly want to know why. And I'd probably end up asking. But you ate the same food, right? (Of course you did. You cooked it!) And the food tasted perfectly OK to you? (Of course it did!)
Strange, very strange ....
Yeah, I'd definitely want to know what the story was!

Tonight: potato, spinach & pea curry on steamed Jasmine rice.

We're working on emptying the freezer, so we can defrost it.

Tonight we had steamed bbq pork buns, pork and veggie dumplings, and sauteed bok choy. Pretty darned tasty combo. Love that baby bok choy!
