A healthy helping of Pizza Hut and Starbucks...blech...isn't sounding or feeling like such a great idea after the fact.

Putting together a salad to take to a neighbour's bbq

green beans/chorizo/some mixed beans (white/kidney/black) - the pancetta, browned butter, balsamic vinegar dressing I was working on earlier this week - going to throw some grape tomatoes on top of the warm salad just as it's time to go over

since it was such a wonderful morning , we decided to go for a drive in the country .
stopped at the WARING HOUSE in prince-edward county (one of our favourite places and favourite restaurants ) for lunch .
we shared a platter of seafood linguine and nicely prepared veal liver , finished off with a truffle/chocolate dessert(shared one serving) and strong tea .
went for a nice drive through the countryside and along lake ontario thereafter .
stopped at farm for a load of veggies and small red potatoes - ten dollars filled an icebox to the brim !
what a great day !

A very spicey pumpkin soup tonight, pureed, with a dollop of yoghurt on top. Quick, easy & tasty. Pity I nearly removed a finger (slight exaggeration  ) peeling the pumpkin with my super sharp kitchen knife, though. Ouch, that hurt!

For me it was an avocado roll and then some basa in cajun breading and a quinoa salad with various peppers.

A white fish, sort of trout-like. Delicious. If I ever meet up with you, we'll have our own Girl Meets Grill fest Smile

Hey, wait, I have got to say your controlled effluviance on the a2k know thread is classic and beyond classic. I'm in awe.

Ok, enough of that.

To be truthful, I alway thought Jespah could do situation comedies with mere waves of her hand. I think you're that good too. (Wandy's also in a groove.)

That's the last nice thing you'll hear from me for hours.

Seconds last night, were just as good, Dorothy. (I was feeling too zonked to cook.)

Tonight: one of those rolled porchetta thingies from my Italian butcher, roasted with potatoes, pumpkin & onions. Plus a big serve of green beans (going cheap AT LAST! Hooray! Very Happy ) tossed in butter & bread crumbs. Ready soon!

That was a big roast you cooked, Dorothy. A special occasion?

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooh!

That sounds very good, k!

I do little with couscous apart from the most basic things. Any chance of a recipe?

Just a very light dinner tonight (one soft boiled egg on toast) after a late lunch this afternoon - one of my favourite meals in Little Saigon, in Footscray: the stuffed crepe-y creation I've written about here before. (Full of bean shoots, prawns, small pieces of roasted pork, etc .... then bits are broken off & wrapped in big leaves of different lettuces with a variety of mints. Then dipped in a spicy sauce ... Absolutely delicious! Very Happy ) One of the things I really love about Vietnamese food is the huge amounts of fresh, healthy greens (including the mints & herbs) that are added to so many dishes. I watched as a woman at the next table piled heaps of greens on top of a huge, steaming bowl of soup. Must try that next time! Very Happy

I'm into super quick (even quicker than my previous definition of quick!), healthy food right now. Am I flat out, or what? Sad

Anyway .... tonight's effort wasn't too bad at all!: poach a chicken breast fillet in water with rosemary sprigs, a bay leaf & a few peppercorns. Remove chicken, cool & shred it & wipe out the pot. Then gently sautee some onion, garlic, chilli, celery, red capsicum & corn till softish. Add long grain rice, the (shredded) chicken in some of the poaching liquid & gently simmer till the rice is cooked. Add 1/4 cup peas & a few shredded mint leaves .... And that's it! Easy. Maybe it was because I was famished, but it was delicious! Very Happy
