Dinner last night: a really hearty (smoked) ham (on the bone) & split green peas soup! I made a gigantic potful! Plenty in the freezer now for some short order dinners on the freezing cold nights still to come. Very Happy

It was, osso!

Just the thing to cope with an ultra-chilly, miserable Melbourne night!

Comfort food. Yeah! Very Happy

Tonight: a potato, pea & spinach curry served with Jasmine rice. A tomato-based sauce - very spicey, but not at all hot. Lovely aroma wafting through the place as I cooked! Very Happy

last night we had the annual neighbourhood barbeque and picnic - about 50 people - old and young .
as usual : too much food , but once a year is o.k. !
my favourite as usual is a curried , marinated chicken that our neighbour who hails from barbadoes makes : not too spicy , a touch of sweetness - mmmhhh - fingerlicking good Laughing
finished up with german hazelnut cake and raspberry icecream-bombe ; didn't need any supper but enjoyed breakfast .

So, how did you rate it, then? An 8 out of ten would have been pretty good! Very Happy

Tonight: an el quick stir fry. Chicken with lots of garlic (always! Very Happy ), Hoisin Sauce, red capsicum strips, a few other goodies .... tossed toward the end with spring onion greens, toasted cashew nuts & a bit of sesame oil. On steamed white rice. Very nice! (I don't know what it is about steamed rice, but I could eat heaps of it at the moment. I could live on it! Perhaps it's due to some sort of deficiency in my diet?)

today was a day for a HAMBURGER SPECIAL !

since fresh green beans , pears and small potatoes are readily available , mrs h made a special HAMBURGER DISH :

BOHNEN , BIRNEN UND SPECK !

aka BEANS , PEARS AND (double-smoked) BACON !
add small potatoes in the jacket : A FEAST !

luckily mrs h made up a big pot so we'll have enough for tomorrow and later this week !

Ha!

I just finished topping and tailing a bag of fresh green beans. They're blanching right now. I'm going to try a preparation that involves simply topping them with browned butter, balsamic vinegar, s & p.

If it works, it's going to be my offering at a party on Saturday and another next Thursday. Crumbled bacon and shredded cheddar will be offered on the side for the non-vegans.

ok - that was good

I found a little piece of pancetta in the fridge. Diced it up, cooked it with some chunks of smoked turkey sausage.

Green beans, smoky bacon and sausage. Balsamic/butter dressing.

mmmmmmmm
