<fires up the wood grill, throws in a few logs and makes Eva one of her special mouth watering med/well burgers with that awesome smokey taste you get from grilling with wood>

Unless the weather doesn't permit, all my burgers and steaks go on the wood grill. Yummy! :-)

What kind of condiments would you like with that, Eva?

Oh, YESSSSSSS! Cooked over a wood fire!!! That's the BEST!

On a burger...grilled onions, extra cheese, with a large slice of tomato and either BBQ sauce or mayo (or both.) If you throw on a couple of slices of bacon too, I might just move in!

I used to make seasoned ground beef for party people back in the '70's. It was to be eaten raw on crackers, so I ground it 100% lean, and heavily seasoned it with salt, pepper and garlic powder. I never heard of anyone getting ill on the product, but I doubt the tradition still lives on.

Wow!

I adore sushi, so I dunno why that's SUCH a surprise to me, but it is!

Osso's comments have gotten me re-thinking some stuff.

My grandmother always like to soak everything in grease. She loved her sugary food. She smoked 2 packs a day. But she has cut down on all these things since she went into the nursing home last year at 100. She's now 101.

Couple of things going on here, as in I was riffing against bacteria fear as a kind of way of life, rather obnoxiously I admit, but there is also taste and texture - people just plain have different ways they find a burger or steak delicious.

speaking of bacon, most of my life I have raised hogs and cured my own bacon and hams, that stuff they sell that they call bacon in the market is what I used to render lard. I called it sow-belly. real bacon is MEAT.
