lean hamburger?

Reply Mon 3 Apr, 2006 11:26 am
Ok so lean is in vogue but is it edible? I don't think so. When I go to the market everything is "lean" or "skinless" like 90% lean hamburger. You can't make a burger with any taste with 90% lean burger but that's all you can buy in the market. I have to go to my butcher to get edible hamburger (80% or 75% lean).

Oh I'm right there with you.

Julia Child recommends frying hamburgers in butter and she lived to be about 160.

I don't mind 15% but don't like to use much less than that. I don't think I've tried 25%.

My grandfather (who I lived with when I wasn't in Lebanon or Saudi Arabia) had for brekkies 1 porkchop, 2 eggies (fried in butter) one sliced tomato, real bacon cured in our smokehouse and a dollop of cottage cheese pretty much every morning of his life lived to the age of 97 still on the farm. My grandmother lived to the age of 99 (she did the cooking). Tofu wasn't on the menu.

I use the extra lean, but mix feta cheese in the burger.

Much easier clean up too.

The foodies say that it's a waste of money to buy anything other than regular. Extra fat will be cooked out as you grill it.

I buy the 4% fat hamburger meat. Alright, so it's dry, but it makes me feel very virtuous! Laughing

I go with 10% fat, and still drain off the excess grease - unless the price difference is way in favor of the extra fat.

I like the 95% lean , but cooked in bacon grease.

Of course, that's what my bible tells me to do.

Oh man. Edgar knows what he is doing!

I'm too po' for that, so I buy the cheapo regular or lean. Still makes a tasty burger; especially for the barbeque. mmm...

I'm with ya Dys. I don't like the lean stuff either. The burgers have no juice in them and juicy meat is a must ;-)

Juicy burgers and T-Bone steaks :-)

I go with the 10% fat, cooked medium-rare, and take my chances with the e-coli.
