What should be done about illegal immigration?

Tancredo was giving a speech on immigration when young thugs shouted him down and committed some minor acts of violence. He is against amnesty for illegals. See a video of the mini riot:

@Advocate,
So Advocate, who did you vote for in the Republican primary?

There are people who still think that if Tancredo had won the primary, Obama would not be in the White House today.

@Advocate,
His first amendment rights dont matter, since he is a conservative.
And the violence will be excused by the left because they were only protesting a conservative, so the violence was ok.

These can only be the same 2 persons you referred to earlier on this thread, who can't figure out that "people" means "human beings". Why not post their names and be done with all these "...people say..." constructions? Too logical for you, sadly.

The first Amendment prohibits Congress from abridging the freedom of speech. Unless you can show how the government stopped Tancredo from saying what he wanted to say, his first Amendment rights were not violated.

@old europe,
Nonsense, Old Europe - my friend Mysteryman very obviously meant the FOURTH Amendment (against unreasonable searches and seizures, as portrayed in the accompanying video) and even a foreign-trained jurist like yourself should have recognized that he made a typo.

Make that an HONEST foreign-trained jurist Smile

@High Seas,
I've always admired you telepathic skills. To me, it's absolutely awesome how you're able to figure out what a person actually meant, even if what he wrote is sometimes the exact opposite of that. It really leaves me speechless. You're way ahead of me there.

It's just natural that you would therefore chastise people who don't have those telepathic capabilities. I'm sure I'd be looking down on others, too, if it was me who had those psychic skills and they were those poor fools who have to go by what somebody actually says or writes. And believe me, I would question their honesty, too! In fact, I would call them names just for not having any paranormal skills! I'd call them liars and worse! How dare they go by the written word!?

I'm glad you're posting here to speak up for those who are being unfairly criticised for what they write instead of what they've been thinking. They would have no voice without you.

Thank you!

@ebrown p,
I can't imagine voting in a Rep primary. I happen to agree with Tancredo on immigration, but probably nothing else. I doubt he got many votes in the primary.

We can always rely on you to be an apologist for a fellow Rep, no matter what he or she did. McCain left the military many years ago, is a senator, etc., and should know better than using such a term. It is really beyond belief.

I am not apologizing for anything. If somebody is trying to kill you, you might call them names as well, but that doesn't mean you don't understand the situation. You can accuse McCain of many things, and I have accused him of naivity, but I do not accuse him of racism, as I do not believe he is, no way. Fact is, I think the many Vietnamese supported or support McCain.

@okie,
I'm with Okie on that one - if some vile crew had kept ME prisoner and tortured me even for one second, never mind for years, believe me I would call them a helluvalot WORSE than "gooks". What would YOU do, Advocate??

@High Seas,
Don't think I'm making fun of you. Call it political correctness if you want to. I think your posts, similar to a compass needle which is always pointing South, contribute a lot towards charting the course of the discussion here. It would make participating in discussions a lot less enjoyable if you stopped posting. And it would severely limit opportunities for posting pictures of shovels, too.

@okie,
Support for anyone doesn't mean anything; most people, even tyrants, have support. What's your point?

@old europe,
My dear man - you are constitutionally incapable of making fun of anybody or anything, so rest assured such a thought never even entered my mind. Appreciate your courteous intent in pointing it out, though.

As to compass needles, possibly you haven't actually observed one, ever, as they are colored differently for N and S. You've been inadvertently and erroneously looking at the S tip so far, but now you know better - no, don't thank me, I believe in public duty Smile

@High Seas,
I though oe's post quite witty. If it was designed to make fun of you I think it succeeded quite well.

@spendius,
You got blackballed at Lola's, I gather, and it finally dawned on you it's exceedingly bad form to attend gatherings in which you're persona non grata? Better late than never, Spendius, you'll have fun here, I'm sure - the standards are so low even you might be accommodated.

I don't think there are any blackballs in Lola's joint. It would be profoundly illiberal.

Please, save that nonsense for your fellow rightwingers. His being a prisoner is ancient history, and he should not now be using that word. Thank goodness he was not elected.

@Advocate,
He wasn't my first choice, but boy do I wish McCain was president now, maybe we would have an ounce of sanity in the Whitehouse. Just an ounce would help, in regard to anything, the economy, spending, national security, and everything else. The only bright hope I we have right now is that Obama will create such a backlash that we can sweep the place out in 2 years, and finish the job in 4.
