I don't think Fred Thompson is much worried whether or not some happy, clappy liberal all hot for open borders and making this country the dumping ground for the Mexican government's surplus people thinks he's a bigot or racist.

Fact is, he's right. By allowing what's presently going on, we just help the Mexican elite delay their day of reckoning. Bad for us - bad for them. Mexicans need to stand up to their corrupt government. That's all he's saying and I agree with him.

Lou Barletta, a small town mayor in Hazelton, PA cracked down on illegals (causing the ACLU's panties to bunch-up) and won not only the GOP's nomination in Tuesday's primary, but so many Dems wrote in his name, he won both tickets.

Is that for real? I hadn't read up on it, but if this is a true story I am much encouraged. We the people don't have to be prisoner of the touchy feely mushy headed numbnuts out there after all? That would be terrific!

Until now (= until a judge decides differently), Hazelton's Relief Act, which penalizes businesses for hiring illegal immigrants or landlords for renting to them, is illegal.

So here you favour illegals acts.

I don't see where I commented on an act Walter. You couldn't possibly be misrepresenting what I said again would you?

Well, since this was the main -if not only- issue in the Hamilton primary, I thought so.

Sorry. I stand corrected.

Bill, if you make a claim, it is for you to support it.

It is cute that you link to a water company for support of your desalination claim. BTW, it says that desalination provides DRINKING WATER for 70 % in SA, and says nothing about water needed for sanitation, mining, agriculture, etc. Keep in mind that Saudi Arabia is wealthy and can afford such a costly project. Here is a balanced statement on water:
I would have thought you'd be embarrassed by your last bout with idiocy; but this tops it. The Saudi Company mentioned in the link provides 50% of the Country's municipal water supply (not just drinking water). The one line that says it provides DRINKING WATER for 70% reads like this: "Saudi Arabia is now the world's largest producer of desalinated water with desalination meeting 70% of the country's present drinking water requirement and supplying major urban and industrial centres through a network of water pipes which run for more than 2,300 miles." How much pot do you have to smoke to interpret that as "only drinking water"?

In fact; the company operates on the assumption that the overall need is 600 liters of water per person, per day Do you think the Saudis drink 160 gallons of water a day each? Laughing Did you even look at the link? Or OE's? Or the Tampa link? You're speaking from authority, directly out of your ass. Where's that Grease Monkey?

If you really did a little research, you would find that desalination has tremendous related economic, environmental, and cultural problems. Often, it just doesn't work.

BTW, since it appears that illegals will get amnesty, can I cheat on my taxes and not get prosecuted?

No,but you can rob a bank and as long as you dont hurt anyone you can not only keep the money, but you will also be rewarded for robbing the bank by being given more money.

This example only works if the bank is handing out money.

No,it works the way I presented it.
You say that it only works if the bank is giving away money.
You seem to be assuming that the US is "giving away" its social services and its safety net to anyone that asks.
You seem to think that the US's largesse should be free to anyone that asks.
It shouldnt. It must be paid for somehow.

Obeying our laws (including immigration laws) shouldnt be to much to ask.

These immigrants are here not because of US largesse.

These immigrants are here because American businesses (both big and small) want them to work... and because Americans benefit from their being here.

If the banks benefitted from handing out money, then they would hand out money... and it wouldn't be largesse, it would because the bank got something in return.

These immigrants are doing jobs that need to be done (arguing about whether we should pay more for these jobs is another question) but anyone doing these jobs should be compensated enough to pay for their needs.

You seem to think that paying workers is largesse. That makes no sense.

The major problem is that business, large and small, (including Bill) love having the IA slave labor. The IAs can be paid less, with no benefits, and they never complain. Bush, of course, buys into this.
Further demonstration of idiocy. I have no business, no IAs working for me, no Mexicans working for me, and when I did; I've stated time and again that they earned (on average) a buck MORE an hour than they're white counterparts (because they were worth the extra dough). Again; you are speaking from authority; directly out of your ass. Rolling Eyes

It is not racism nor prejudice nor bigotry to prefer that Mexico keep its own crooks, thieves, and others who prey on the weak. We already have quite enough of our own homegrown variety of those thank you very much.
This is a good example of your folly. Supposedly closed borders means those dregs of society will be sprinkled in with millions of hard working, good people, and thereby VERY difficult to detect. If the millions were all allowed to simply sign up for a thorough background check before entry; the dregs wouldn't be able to hide among them. You prattle on as if anyone wants Mexico's criminals to move here. No one does. By pretending these dregs are representative of those who do in general; you betray your own bigotry. There are lots of reasons to oppose immigration; "They're all criminals!" isn't one of them. That is a lie that betrays the bigotry of the people who repeat it. Statistically; a better argument could be made that black people are criminals; but it would be just as false, and just as anchored in bigotry.

The simple FACT is; the majority of illegals would like to "follow the dang rules"... but not at the expense of remaining in poverty, indefinitely. Now, you can either understand that, from their perspective; or you're ignorant, bigoted or lying. Do you disagree with that sentiment?

Why do you insist upon accusing people of being bigots, liars, and ignorant, if they do not agree with you on illegal immigration? Law abiding citizens are really getting tired of that nonsense. You should have better reasoning than simply resorting to that. Look up the meaning of demagoguery, Bill.
Okie; I asked if you could understand why the man crosses the border; not to "agree with me". Are you saying you can't understand? If you can; we've made progress. If you can't; I've little choice but to consider one of those labels. <shrugs>

As for your repeated accusation that I'm falsely calling people bigot; read up a bit to where McG substitutes Beaners for Mexicans and tell me again how I was wrong. Idea

Last time I was in Mexico, I was eating some tacos with some co-workers in a nice little restaurant and we were discussing immigration issues. One looked over at me and said "I wonder why your country let's so many wetbacks in your country." I coughed a bit on my taco and looked up at him. I told him that in America, the term "wetback" is considered a rather insulting term. He laughed and thought that was funny. He explained the origin of the term to me as those that swam across the rio and thus had a "wet back".

I used the term "beaner" on purpose. One, because I knew it would upset the culturally sensitive, and two, because it was new to me. Now, I am branded a bigot, yet I don't much really care considering the source and the context of the current, silly, topic.

Again I reiterate that being against illegal immigration does not mean being against all immigration. That doesn't make me insensitive to the plight of those that wish to live in our great country. I welcome those that come here legally and work their fingers to the bones making a better life for themsleves. I just don't care for those that come here illegally. Just as I don't appreciate the shop-lifters that steal from stores hurting their bottom line and increasing the cost of product for those that wish to actually pay money for the goods they buy.

Do you feel empathy for shop-lifters? They are just trying to better their lives too, right? What about bank robbers? Aren't they just trying to get ahead in life?

All are criminals and must be dealt with accordingly.

It isn't easy to move a laid off auto worker and his family from Detroit to a new job in California picking tomatoes.

Because not all of the unemployed wish to work, bigot. Any other stupid questions?

Your explanation for using a bigoted term, excuses it not at all. Enjoy being called a bigot until you apologize to all you may have offended, bigot.

So now you're too stupid to disern context, too? By your idiotic logic; there was nothing wrong with Howard Cosell's infamous "Look at that monkey run"... and to defend it you'd state there's nothing inherently wrong with the word monkey? Pretty pathetic, bigot.

So Howard Cosell was a bigot too? I thought he was just a humorous Monday Night football guy. I keep learning about more bigots all the time.
