and what sound did you produce? record it next time. let us be the judge of quality.
I'll do that Dag, but in the meantime, I have just this evening recorded myself singing Oisis and Osiris, from the Magic flute, after wrapping two small but sturdy elastic bands round my nuts.
Shall I upload it for you?
yes, please. i got the loudspeaker plugged into the computer. ready to broadcast it to the world.
I don't think that the recording media was up to the challenge.
Even the oboe and violin sound bad.
That isn't an oboe. I had beans for lunch.

1. Find intact male feline.
2. Find large printed encyclopedia.
3. Open book.
4. Slam shut on cat's testicles.
And no, one should not really do that, you PETA nutcases.
Do you realize that I can't get a picture of my daughters with a bunny rabbit this year because of PETA?
Sheesh.
I've found my new "critical stop" cue.
that cat sounds like it's got ben gay up its butt.
I find old operatic recordings often have a strange sound to our ears, and I d owonder if the recording process then was less than kind to singers?
I have heard the first clip before, and certainly would not want to hear a castrati again based on that! But I do wonder if that was recorded when his voice had already deteriiorated due to age?
They were supposed to have been amazing to hear because they had the high notes, with, supposedly, male lungs and so forth to give a stronger voice.
Though age might be a factor here, (I don't know exactly when these recordings were made) I'm almost certain the fault lies with poor recording conditions.
Moreschi left behind seventeen recordings of very poor quality, that is all that remains for us the judge the legacy of greater vocalists.
His voice was recorded on single-sided shellac discs with at best four minutes playing time.
I'd sell my cat for a chance to see Farinelli perform.
*edit* For the record, I don't think he (Moreschi) was particularly good, but sadly it is all we have.
