"A woman had a litter of kittens that had been saved from drowning. The kittens were six weeks old. She arrived at my apartment with the entire litter and let all the sweet little kittens loose in the apartment with Miranda, who was not happy about the intrusion. Miranda was under the bed making leonine noises. The kittens wandering into the bedroom. Miranda roared. The kittens darted out of the bedroom, except that Patty turned back to investigate. Her fate was sealed. I kept her."

Laughing

You still tell a mean story, Roberta! Very funny!

"She was Miranda's cat, who became her tormentor, mother, friend, and partner in crime. She was my cat once removed. Patty was the sweetest most lovable animal I have ever encountered."

Aw. Very Happy

Just telling you what happened. As long as I maintained the appropriate pecking order, all was peaceful. Miranda had to be fed first, greeted first, brushed first. etc.

you do tell a mean story Roberta! its the woids you use, no waffle and your timing Very Happy

mspoppy is utterly beautiful.

I've only ever had rescue cats and they found us, except for Paddy - and he was the only kitten they had available to be rehomed solo, so no choice!

I did have them as kittens so not pre-owned really and of course Rosie was only 2 weeks old, orphaned and feral - but you couldnt' have a sweeter cat than mspoppy and my daughters both have pre-owned cats who adore them so I think it doesn't make a difference, it's the bond you build with them Very Happy that counts .

It's been a pleasure catching up and seeing all the gorgeous photos. Miss Poppy has that aristicratic look that seems to say, " Well alright, if you insist, I suppose it is only fair that everyone should have the chance to admire me." Very regal. The questionalble background of pound kitties makes no difference in there appearance or their sense of place and class. Ah, and those eyes--venerable.

Even though she disliked the cat hotel, don't you think that a vacation is so needed at times that it won't hurt her once in a while? Look what you and Deb went through at the thought of leaving your cat behind. Thank heaven both of you were able to relax and enjoy your vacation. Remember that it is very important to take good care of yourself.

Snood, your cat is lovely and Caribou, that is one tough character-looks like he could belong in a gang.

Hi Urs! As always, love to see pics of your kitties.

Who was it who mentioned her cat racing around being crazy at night? Well Dante does the same. He is very definitely nocturnal. Dys is always the one who is wakened and takes the brunt of Dante's craziness. He said a couple of days ago that Dante's name should be changed to Bizzaro. When I told Osso she said Inferno should be added. So now he is Dante Aligheri, AKA Bizzaro Inferno, the evil twin of our sweet Dante.

He literally bounces off the furniture and the walls, racing around as fast as possible. For a large, 14 pound, 4 year old cat, he has the energy and playfulness of a kitten, much to Dys' chagrin. I'm not sure if Dys realizes that Dante completely owns him. It's as if Dante has a mental reach into Dys' brain that tells him to wake up and play, no matter what the wee hour of the night.

Thank you for the Poppy compliments, Deb, Roger, Vivien, Roberta, Caribou & all! All so true!

You know, I sometimes sneak back a few pages to have another look! That expression on her face makes me laugh! Just who does she think she is, anyway? Crown Princess Poppy?Laughing

I well remember your incredibly valiant efforts with Rosie other kitten, Vivien. And look how she's come on! You'd never know that it was such a struggle for her to survive, looking at her. And you're right, it's the bond between humans & their critters that counts!

Diane, looks like we were both attempting to post at the same time!
Both making "regal" references, too. Snap!

Yes, I agree that once in a while something like the cat hotel might be necessary. I've tended to be a bit over-protective in the past, I think, and being away by the sea for those few days certainly did me a powerful world of good! She settled back into her old routine pretty quickly once she was home, too. So no damage of the permanent variety was done. I will re-read these posts the next time a friend asks me to spend some time away from home! To strengthen my resolve! Thanks, Diane.

I love a cat who really throws himself into creative hi jinx, Diane! Laughing You & dys are fortunate to have such delightful entertainment on such a regular basis! It's rather like he's singing for his supper, isn't it? I suppose Dante Aligheri, AKA Bizzaro Inferno sleeps through most of the day, to conserve energy for his nocturnal pursuits? But how do you manage to sleep through all this? Are these nightly performances specifally aimed at dys? Very Happy

I'm not sure if my post admiring your photographs of Nisse & Misan (I hope I got the spelling of their names right!) actually made it onto the thread at the time. (not much I posted to any thread did, so ...) So here goes again!: Great shots! Were they climbing into the attic? They look so happy in their home environment, like it's just one big play-pen, especially for them! Some critters have it good! Very Happy

How's Miranda fairing these days, Deb?
I don't think you've posted any recent updates.

Scampering and wowling as we speak...well, actually now tucked neatly into herself on the carpet next to my computer, but ony moments ago she was wowling and scampering in that night time madness that cats have.

I gave her a game with her pipecleaner, feather and dental floss thing that she likes.

It is clear that her stroke has left her unable to indulge in what used to be her favourite thing.......jumping UP at things dangled or cast above her head....either her neck is too stiff, or her visual field is affected, and she cannot see, or cannot get her head back far enough, to play that game. She used to make the most wonderful Nijinsky leaps, and do somersaults and such in the air while up there.

Oddly, she can still easily judge jumping up onto high surfaces.

She is very lively the last couple of days...

Who knows if she is recovering or about to throw another stroke?

Thing is, I have appreciated the warnings I have with her and I had with Oscar...she is getting lots of the very special attention I was able to give Oscar.

We do lots of cuddling, gazing adoringly into each other's eyes, chatting, and stroking...and nowsome wrestling and playing again.

That's very good to hear, Deb! I'm delighted she's perked up to the extent that she has. Sounds like she's having a great time & really thriving on the extra attention. Very Happy

You wouldn't happen to have any photographs of her doing one of those amazing Nijinski leaps, would you?

msolga, that's the ceiling of our second floor. We live in a very old house and it really seems to be a giant cat playground! So I don't feel quite as bad about them being inside cats...

Ooooooh, can't you just hear the crankiness & exasperation?

Poor margo had to come all the way to Melbourne to photograph my Poppy for this thread, because of my technical incompetence! Embarrassed Laughing

BTW margo, I was wondering if you have any new Possum pics you could share with us? I don't wish to appear pushy or anything, but it has been quite a while since you posted any! Tsk, tsk!

I had to race home, make a birthday cake and get out again! And all with a stress fracture in the foot! Hopping around like a demented wombat - or something.

And no - not even a nibble - there's always new photos of Possum - but I don't want you lot to be saying - "that bloody margo - always bragging about her super-brilliant, photogenic cat!"

Surprised Good grief, you've fractured a bone in your foot? That's terrible.
How did you manage that? Tennis?

So ..... you've been withholding Possum photographs, have you? Hmmmmm ... Evil or Very Mad
