THE NEW CAT ROOM! (or the Cat Room #2)

Sadly, I have to report to the cat lovers at A2K that on February 19, 2026 my beloved boy Merlin got out of the house during a snowstorm in the middle of the night. He has never been seen since. He was the affectionate one of the two brothers I've had since they were 8 weeks old. Merlin was always good for headbutts and endless purrs and hand licks. It is one of the saddest things I can imagine happening. I've gotten through it by leaning on friends and prayer.

Some have encouraged me to hold on to hope that he returns, and I have left open all the posts to all the sites that might help and posted physical posters and visited the local animal control.

But the hard truth is that we had weeks of sub-freezing nights, Merlin was a pampered indoor cat with a limp and no survival skills, and he probably didn't even survive the first night.

He was the sweetest cat ever, and he will be missed forever.

Jeez that was JANUARY 19, not February. He’s been gone for a month, not three days.

We're currently cat less after Muffy died a few years ago.

We didn't want to get any more pets until after we moved.

Literally only left Southampton for good on Friday.

It will be a few more weeks before the house is ready to receive pets.

That is very sad news. I know how I would feel as a cat lover were that to happen in my household. How's the other guy doing?

It really affected him, too. They were twin brothers, thick as thieves. He’s more clingy than he used to be - stays closer, cries when I have to leave. He’s never had to be all alone before - always had his mirror image bro there - grooming him, wrestling with him… It’s a damn sad thing, for real. But thanks for asking about Theodore though!
