I am staying with friends and they have an older male cat. He has taken to me and whenever I sit down to watch TV, he's immediately on my lap - I think he likes the warmth for his old bones. He talks to me and follows me around the house, a very sweet old man he is.

They also have two labs, the younger of which loves to try to play with the unwilling cat. I've see the dog literally toss the cat in the air with her snout - the cat protests loudly then sneaks away, having no front claws to defend himself with.

Right Vivien, Paddy is a little on the heavy side, but he insists he's the correct weight for his height!

Now, where did I hear that before?

Very Happy Rosie is getting well padded too and has a little saggy apricot coloured tummy that sways if she has to run - it upsets her dignity when I laugh Twisted Evil

Vivien, You shouldn't laugh at a cat. Dangerous. I'm not sure that they truly understand what laughing is, but I do know that they know when there's a put-down involved.

Here's s my quick update:

Bonkers is up to his normal activities....bossing me aound - now that he is getting tuna 2 x per day (for me to hide his pills in). Unreal how he recover. You'd swear this was a broken leg, instead of congestive heart failure.

You know I like my cat Louis, and he can be good company, but cats are stupidly stubborn and refuse to obey the most basic requests.

Meet Skidboot.

I know whatcha mean about cats not taking direction well. I boarded a youngish female Himalaya for a week, and it couldn't understand the most basic English sentence; like "Get your fuzzy buns of my gosh darn table, CAT!" Probably not her fault, though. The person she usually stayed with might not have included her in enough interesting conversations.

Hi,Msolga:
This morning I saw Nekochan, through the front door, sitting at the edge of the driveway at Poindexter's
shady spot under a cedar tree -- still does this even though he's been gone for eight years now.

It was about this time of year that he passed away.

Anyway, I got out the camera, but just as I opened
the door to take a picture of her gazing into the spot known here as Checkpoint Charlie, she instantly
got up,turned around, and headed back toward me, and sat down for this pose. I got the message: I
was intruding into her private and personal moment. That brief moment was such a poignant sight.

Hi neko

I must be feeling a bit wobbly today. Your photograph of Nekochan & your story brought tears to my eyes. <gulp> I loved the photograph. A wistful Nekochan moment. She's a dignified critter, isn't she? <smile>
She's very lucky to have so much love & attention from her carers.

Hi all---Dante becomes more and more a special part of our lives. For a large, 14 pound, four year old cat, he has lots of energy and playfulness. At first I thought all the noise and racing around the house was from Sally going after Dante, but Dante was the culprit. Sometimes, he will sit on his haunches and box with Sally.

I adore this rather naughty, playful boy, even when he tries to use the computer. When he stretches out on my compputer desk, he takes up almost all the space, then he starts bathing himself, moving on to me, licking my fingers all the way up my arms. He is licking my fingers as I am typing this post.

A friend sent this recipe for kitty litter cake. This will only be appreciated by cat lovers and some of them won't find it appetizing, but it is funny, even though it looks like sh!t.

>CAKE INGREDIENTS
>1 box spice or German chocolate cake mix
>1 box of white cake mix
>1 package white sandwich cookies
>1 large package vanilla instant pudding mix A few drops green food coloring
>12 small Tootsie Rolls or equivalent

>SERVING "DISHES AND UTENSILS"
>1 NEW cat-litter box
>1 NEW cat-litter box liner
>1 NEW pooper scooper
>
>Prepare and bake cake mixes, according to directions, in any size pan.
>Prepare pudding and chill. Crumble cookies in small batches in blender or
>food processor. Add a few drops of green food coloring to 1 cup of cookie crumbs. Mix with a fork or shake in a jar. Set aside. When cakes are at room temperature, crumble them into a large bowl. Toss with half of the remaining cookie crumbs and enough pudding to make the mixture moist but not soggy. Place liner in litter box and pour in mixture.

Unwrap 3 Tootsie Rolls and heat in a microwave until soft and pliable. Shape the blunt ends into slightly curved points. Repeat with three more rolls. Bury the rolls decoratively in the cake mixture. Sprinkle remaining white cookie crumbs over the mixture, then scatter green crumbs lightly over top. Heat 5 more Tootsie Rolls until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake and sprinkle with crumbs from the litter box. Heat the remaining Tootsie Roll until pliable and hang it over the edge of the box. Place box on a sheet of newspaper and serve with scooper. Enjoy!

Morning, cat people,

Why does this 6 month old cat make loud 'mewing?' sounds, hard to describe, when playing with a particular toy?

There is no catnip in it, it's just a small soft ball, that she seeks out and carries around with her. She sounds like she's in pain or distressed! Should I take it off her?

Hi Diane

Dante sounds much like all the wicked, playful, hyper-energetic boy cats I've had the privilege to live with. Never a dull moment! He'll keep you entertained & on your toes! And you haven't seen anything yet, trust me! Enjoy! Very Happy

I loved the Kitty Litter cake recipe!
A great alternative to (sniffing with great disdain) inferior, store bought products! Laughing
