Ah Deb, Bob told me about Oscar, as I haven't been posting for a week or so.
Your post was so beautiful, full of detail of the kind that made Oscar a very real, special cat. My heart goes out to you and Miranda.

Well, that was strange. Double hugs for Deb and Miranda.
Roberta, you had me laughing at the thought of your sweet Patty finding her jungle identity and chomping down on her kill. They are all ferocious jungle cats at heart.
Dante continues working his way into our hearts. He is very loving and full of mischief. Sally, our Jack Russell/whatever terrier, was terribly disappointed that he just wouldn't be a dog, but they have begun playing and chasing each other, batting and stalking and having a wonderful time. Today, I saw Dante sit on his hind paws and almost box with Sally.
A couple of days ago, he was stalking Sally, tail all puffed up, his eyes huge, assuming the posture of the hunt and imminent attack, up on his tiptoes, sidling across the kitchen floor. Sally was suddenly distracted by a dog barking outside and completely forgot about Dante. Of course, being a cat, Dante looked very nonchalant and began to wash. What a let down, poor Dante had worked himself into a jungle cat posture only to be ignored ignominiously.
He amazes us with his ability to squeeze into cupboards, no matter how small or how full. All thirteen plus pounds of him displacing extraneous cups, saucers as he makes his way around in the crowded shelves. We have developed a kind of face off--Dante opening one of the kitchen drawers, I closing it firmly and walking out of the room only to hear the drawer opening again. Glue gun sticks and a couple of pot holders left on the floor to let me know that he WILL explore to his heart's content.
I got him a toy with catnip today. He now reminds me of me in the 60's. Have a good trip Dante...
Sounds great! I love the wilfulness.
Never too many hugs, Diane.
Dlowan, I am sorry to read about Oscar's death. I am just getting to flipping back through thesp0aes0 (ahem, that was screech's typo, not mine) these pages now. Having just lost Boo, I know very freshly of your pain. These little treasures we have for so short a time......
Oh littlek, Bob also told me about Boo but I had forgotten. It is so sad when people like you and all the animal lovers here lose a pet. While I feel great sympathy for you all, I also feel a huge sense of gratefullness that you all, with your loving, generous hearts, provided the best possible home for your pets--your family members.

Diane, Dante sounds like my Miranda. Didn't take no for an answer. No drawer or door was too much for her. Made me crazy, and made me a fan.
Watched a show on the Animal Planet about felines. It was about the success of cats in nature. Which was found to be the all-time most successful cat ever in the history of the world? Lions? Get real. Leopards? Not a chance. Pussycats? Yup. Felinus domesticus (I made that up).
Populating the globe. Living and thriving with us or without us. There are now more pet cats in the US than pet dogs. And there are estimated to be as many feral cats as there are pet ones. That's a lot of cats.
Diane, Dante is very beautiful cat!
Nisse and Mysan never open doors or drawers. I guess they just never figured out that concept... And I am glad about that!
Roberta, you described it perfectly, all that investigating can be maddening, but it is also endearing just because of the defiance.
Yesterday, we had a couple of handymen over to fix a few things. I warned them not to let Dante out and they were very careful, but I couldn't find him anywhere. After half an hour, we heard a pathetic little "Mew," opened the cupboard door and out he came, Dante, looking like he meant to be in there for half an hour, king of felinus domesticus (Roberta, you've coined a good scientific name).
Urs, good to see you and thanks for your compliment of Dante. When are you and Stephan coming back to the States? We'd love to see you again.
Diane, I will be coming to Denver very soon on business again. Most likely, from October 8 to 13 or 14. I will book the flight tomorrow!
And Stefan is already planning the next trip to Florida in spring. I would love to celebrate his 40th birthday there in March. This would also be nice to celebrate our first vacation together in March 1997. We went to Atlanta and then on to Charleston, Savannah and Daytona.
Nisse hates it when there are hanymen in our place. They are always noisy and have heavy boots. He hides behind the sofa upstairs...

Well you took your time, Ragman!
Just kidding.
Delighted to see you here. Welcome, welcome!
Really looking forward to your photographs of Bonkers.

Oooooh!
Two
beautiful black cats!
A gorgeous pair, Ragman.
I can see why you're so attached to them!
(I tried to post a Bonkers pic to this thread but it didn't work.)
Those two are beautiful, ragman!
Good to cya and thank you, littlek. Sorry for your recent loss of Boo.
Bonkers has actually walked over to find me for a tuna fish meal and sat himself down near me. Until this morning, he would not have done this. Man, oh man, he sure seems to want to rally.
Good news, ragman. As long as he seems to still be enjoying life, he must have some time left. Thinking of you and Bonkers.

Yes, very good news, Ragman! Well done!
Mikey launched an unprovoked assault last night. Not that they're ever provoked, but in this case I was working on some papers, and the monster cat ran out from his sleeping spot and reared up and bit my arm.
I whacked him, and then wondered whether I've been ignoring him again (as I had been before the last uprovoked attack). Nope, I haven't. Just an unprovoked attack. Whacking doesn't seem to do any good. So in addition, I bit him. He seemed stunned but undaunted. What did I get for my trouble? A mouth full of fuzz.
Grrrr. Things are a bit tense here now. At least he didn't come after me in my sleep.
I'm living with a lunatic. Violent, big, and unpredictable.
Roberta, that sounds dangerous! Our cats just do that to each other and I get to watch Mysan pouncing on Nisse or the other way round... Much more fun!
urs, It would be a lot more dangerous if he used his claws. Don't think I would have been able to keep him if he did that. He's always been aggressive.
But the last few months, there have been a few episodes that have gone beyond the norm. I've been having a difficult time, and I think Mikey picks up and reflects that. Again last night he attacked my leg as I was getting into bed. I locked him out of the bedroom.
Big sigh.
