urs, It would be a lot more dangerous if he used his claws. Don't think I would have been able to keep him if he did that. He's always been aggressive.

But the last few months, there have been a few episodes that have gone beyond the norm. I've been having a difficult time, and I think Mikey picks up and reflects that. Again last night he attacked my leg as I was getting into bed. I locked him out of the bedroom.

Big sigh.

Damn cat needs a bifold mouthguard.

He needs a more attentive human, more mental stimulation,. . . and a bifold mouthguard.

The big lug.

Big sigh from me, too, Roberta.

<sigh>

I wish he'd be nicer when you're under such stress .... but then, what does he know? He's just a pussycat, not a human.

Hmmmm....

I just did some Miranda shopping, as she is a sole cat.

a. I got rid of the huge ugly "cat gym" I bought for them when they moved here as two younger cats.

It had several levels, and was the scene of great fun.

Now Miranda will have a discreet perch and scratching post, almost invisible if you do not know it is there...

But..I bought her two great interactive toys (so far she has been scared of the first one!) and a tunnel thing, which folds up for easy storeage.

She has ignored that,

You've decided to stay with just one cat, Deb?

Well, at least no claws, Roberta. It would be nice if he was more understanding and supportive of your difficult situation. But as msolga said - he is just a pussycat...

Deb, how is Miranda doing with the toys? Our place looks like a giant cat playground. And sometimes, they even play with one of the toys - for about a minute or so...

I wish you well with the toys, Deb. I've had less than stellar results with the myriad stuff I've purchased for my felines over the years. (Hmm. Maybe all these purchases are why in my financial ruin. But I digress.) After mountains of fun stuff, I mostly played with by myself, Mikey's favorite is still little balls of aluminum foil tossed in the air. He bats at them. He's good at it. I've got aluminun foil balls all over my apartment.

Miranda's miserable, I think.

She just sits on me and sleeps, or sleeps by herself.

The tunnel thing would have aroused intense curiosity, and she has always loved some toys...she would normally love these, as they are ones I move and she should chase.

My girlfriend had to put her old cat - Max - asleep at the age of 14 years, about 9 months ago. It seems Max had quietly gotten a huge inoperable tumor around his heart. Cheryl was heartbroken, as you might imagine.

I can't recommend it, because I don't know if it would take as well with everyone, but two weeks after Max died, we were looking around for a kitten. Now she has both Dash, and Cleo. They didn't replace Max - you can never replace a beloved pet - but I think it has helped to heal Cheryl's heart some.

Have you thought about getting a kitten, dlowan?

Deb querida, Yes, it sounds as if Miranda is depressed. She needs some time to adjust. I hope she'll snap out of it soon.

I think so.

I never meant for Osar to come here...two cats is a lot of fur and wear and manure for an 85 square metre apartment! (Plus a balcony.)

Hmmm...not frightened any more, and showed a teeny flicker of interest.

She was visible at the window sunning herself on her new, discreet, cat pole as the bus took me past today!

What i said to Msolga, plus Miranda is nearly 11...I do not know how she would take to a kitten.

She just had all the fun and novelty of the rubbish collection man coming and taking away the old huge cat gym, and a bunch of surplus pots!

Deb, trust me, I'm not trying to talk you into a new kitten. God knows, pet ownership is very expensive & a very time consuming thing!

But, hey, 11 years old is not that old!

I reckon the "average" cat lives to around 18 or so, these days .... from my observation & from what my vet tells me.

If you decide that another critter might suit you & perk up Miranda AND you can afford it, go for it!

A kitten could be just the thing to perk Miranda up .... She can bop it on the head & tell it the correct way to behave! But most of all, a new kitten can renew her interest in life. Put a tiger in her tank, so to speak! Very Happy

OK, I say all this having decided myself than my one cat is all that my wee house can accommodate. Plus, she's all that I can afford! So please do not feel under any pressure to do something that's not right for you because of my words.

But if you can ......? Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

msolga, Mikey is not much better today. No surprise attacks. But a lot of meowing and attempted bites. When I know they're coming, I can get out of the way. I wish I knew how to make him happier.

Deb, I got out my handy-dandy calculator. If a meter is about 3 feet (?), then your apartment is 255 square feet. That can't be right, can it? My apartment is 220 square yards! Actually it's 660 square feet. Even with a calculator, I'm hopeless.

I second the 'get a kitten' opinions, unless you really can't do with another cat.

As msolga says, I'm sure Miranda would soon teach it who's the boss, she's used to another cat, so shouldn't freak out like my dozy madame. She'd soon be chasing it around I'm sure.

Fair enough, Deb.
My place is the same.
You should have been here when I moved our 3 cats from the big house to this teensy weensy little house! Pandemonium! Shocked

Of course, Miranda will adjust to the new circumstances.
And you will, too.
(though it's probably not so easy right now, yes?)

Gosh, this has got me really stumped, Roberta.
I've never had a cat this was as complex as Mikey.
And it's not as though you've been mean to him! Confused
But I know he has that loveable side, too.
Do your (cat-lover) friends have any theories about his recent behaviour?
