Thanks for that update, Vivien. (See, even the Prince has a hidden gentle, feline loving side! ) It sounds like things are a bit more under control now (thank goodness!) & that you are going to become quite impoverished financially before Paddy is 100%. A big hug to that naughty, gorgeous big black cat from me. And one to Rosie, too! Very Happy

Rosie is behaving badly - still freaked out by the bandage and smell of vet and hisses at poor Paddy when he tries to say hello.

He's hobbling about quite fast now and wants desperately to be allowed out. No chance for ages.

He had an appointment at the vet this morning but disappeared down the back of furniture I couldn't move - so it's had to be changed to tonight. Let's hope he doesn't do another disappearing act!

The bubble wrap effect seems much less.

So ... mspoppy update? photo? drawing even ? Twisted Evil

It took me awhile, but I decided to read this thread from one end to the other before posting here. I am the mama to four wonderful cats, a blended cat family due to marriage. There are still rocky moments, like one this morning when Victoria sprang out of nowhere and tried to beat the crap out of K'Ten. The other members o this happy crew are Maggie and Albert. Albert and Victoria are Maggie's children, and K'Ten came to the family by marriage. She was my husband's cat. Well, still is, for that matter, although, after three years, she is gradually warming to me. They are indoor kitties. Albert is an 18 pounder, mostly Maine Coon. Maggie weighs in at seven pounds, as does Victoria, and K'ten goes about ten or eleven. Maggie is a tortoiseshell, K'ten a Calico, and Albert and Victoria are greys. There are many stories surrounding these guys which I'd love to share. This seems a safe place to do it, huh? Glad to be here!

Of course it's safe in here. I'm a friendly kitty. Go ahead, scratch my tummy. I won't bite and claw you to pieces, I promise....

Yes Mags, we are here and love to hear the various stories of our kitties lives.

Well, we are finally moved and Paddy is not a happy camper! He is unhappy and unsettled ... mostly he hides in the closet where most of our things are stored.

I feel really bad when I have to go out, leaving him in a strange place not knowing what's going on.

There's some good news from all of this ... Paddy has NEVER before been a lap cat, or would he ever come up on the couch with me, until now!!! So now, when I sit on the couch and put my feet up, he's right up there beside me, and looking quite contented:) There is a God!!!

One funny thing about all this, Paddy is used to my/our bedroom being in front, but now my bedroom is in back of the condo. So every so often he can be seen laying on top of my sisters bed looking very smug. However, when I go to bed, he's right there with me!

I love my cat!

Albert, the 18 pounder, adopted my husband to be on sight. When we married, Albert began a strange sort of behavior to "woo" Richard. Every night, he would bring an array of things and drop them by the bed on Richard's side. They were always things that belonged to my husband. For instance, one night he brought a box of envelopes, a checkbook and a deck of playing cards.

It was hilarious, and continued for months. He doesn't do it anymore, and we rather miss it. You never knew what you would find in the morning! He's a great cat. And Richard's not a bad guy, either.

Hi Mags - Albert sounds a real character!

Misti poor Paddy - how are you settling in though? enjoying sharing with your sister?

Rosie is still behaving weirdly towards poor Paddy - she hisses at him because of the bandage and lies in my arms growling and moaning like when we first brought him home.

I bought a plug in diffuser from the vet on today's Paddy-check-up - to see if it helps Rosie stop being so silly towards him. It's a product called Feliway and diffuses a calming feelgood cat pheromone into the air - let's hope it works! it's supposed to cure behavioural problems of all kinds. It might help your Paddy settle Misti?

I did these very quick sketches of her snoozing with her paw wrapped over her nose last week before Paddy's accident. She couldn't keep still for me even in her sleep Rolling Eyes

Paddy's air bubbles are nearly gone and he's doing fine. We don't have to go back until next Thursday now Very Happy

He's got a 50:50 chance of it staying in place when the bandage comes off. The options then 1. leave it dislocated and the muscles take over, he'll limp but be pain free 2. have an operation where they remove part of the femoral head and the bones slide against each other 3. a new operation that the vet has read about but never done yet where they build a little cage and wire the bone so that it should be as good as new.

2 and 3 are of course expensive Sad

Feliway is good stuff. We have had major problems with integrating
two cat families. Feliway has cut down on the nasty interactions. Vets seem to be recommending it more and more.

By the way, Feliway also comes in a spray can.

thanks mags

Rosie was adopted as a 2 week old orphan who was the size of a hamster and had to be fed every 3 hours 24/7 - so she didn't learn 'cat language' until we had Paddy - it was a pretty rocky ride at first! - so the vet says it may or may not work for her because of that. I would have thought that pheromones work at a very very basic instinctive level though, rather than a learnt one so here's hoping it works! She's currently reclining upstairs, having hissed at him a while ago (despite Feliway, though it hasn't been on more than a few hours) and retired. He's snuggled up on the chair near me,

Hi Vivien and all:

Paddy is not having a good day today, he's been moping around, that's when we can find him ... he's been sleeping a lot and at one point we couldn't find him anywhere ... eventually we did under a table that has a long tablecloth on it which is why we didn't see him. He is eating and when we go out on the porch he follows. I told my sis "Paddy is grieving for his old homestead", she said she believes it. I think he will be OK in a week or so, meantime my heart aches for the little guy.

We are still in a quandry here, got rid of the big boxes which contained little boxes, so now all the little boxes are laying neatly in piles everywhere. I know Rome wasn't built in a day, but I so want order in my life again, and am such a creature of habit that I feel so overwhelmed when things are not where they should be.

I will post some pics later of Paddy on the porch, meantime all suggestions gratefully accepted.

The Feliway doesn't seem to be making any difference to Rosie's behaviour - she's definitely not as bad (though I think that's just time to adjust) but is still very odd and hisses at Paddy and sometimes growls at me. It still might help your Paddy though Misti - worth trying maybe.

Paddy is now at the convalescent stage where he's fed up with being ill and wants to do things he can't yet and is miaowing to go out and getting niggly. He tries so hard to get it through our thick skulls what he wants Sad

If you can get some of the Feliway spray you could spray it on all Rosie's everyday objects...toys, blankets. The smell of vet is very disturbing and long lasting. I remember when Albert had surgery several years ago, Maggie and Victoria hissed and growled at him for weeks.

Only something like 2 & a bit weeks to go, Vivien? Poor you, too!
And poor, confused Rosie. Paddy smells like a vet surgery! Shocked

Mags it is a relief to know that my neurotic little madame isn't the only one to behave this way.

I don't feel inclined to invest in any more Feliway as the vet said it might not work for her with her not having been brought up by cats and only learning 'cat language' late.

It's tough at the moment! Paddy got furious about taking his antibiotic this morning, thankfully only one left to go, though there's still his nighttime pain killer drops.

2 cats who are very suspicious of me at the moment and not exactly me friends Crying or Very sad
