@msolga,
msolga, did you happen to catch the story about the bionic cat that was in the news? It lost its hind feed in a combine harvester accident but through modern medicine now has prostetic feet? Here is the video of him right after surgery:

Here is the video of Oscar with the new and improved feet:

And here is a link to the article about it:

@Arella Mae,
Quote:
(AP) LONDON -- Oscar the cat may have lost one of his nine lives, but his new prosthetic paws make him the world's first bionic cat.

After losing his two rear paws in a nasty encounter with a combine harvester last October, the black cat with green eyes was outfitted with metallic pegs that link the ankle to the foot and mimic the way deer antlers grow through skin. Oscar is now back on his feet and hopping over hurdles like tissue paper rolls.

Pretty incredible, Arella Mae.

Poor little thing: "a nasty encounter with a combine harvester"!
Horrible!

I have a 4 month old kitten (Mitzi Gaynor), she loves being outside and wants to go out all the time, but she comes in to use the litter tray! I've tried moving the tray to just outside the back door, but then she comes in and pees where the litter tray was situated!

How can I get her to go outside? I've tried putting some of litter tray contents on the soil, she sniffs it, then recoils. Does she not recognise her own poo?

Any advice?

@smorgs,
Sadly, no. My senior cat does the same. I just let him do it because I don't want to take a chance on un training him for the box.

She is only 4 months old, smorgs.

She will get better at doing her poo outside as she gets older, I'm certain.

In the meantime, keep doing what you're doing to teach her.

A thought: is the area (outside) you want her to poo in conducive to a small kitten's needs? Like loose, sandy soil which is easy for a kitten to turn over? If not, you might consider creating a sandy "poo area" that she might find more attractive.

Yes, it's me Msolga, how the hell are you doing girl?

Hi Roger!

The garden is very kitten friendly - and lots of places for her to 'go'. I just can't understand why she's put off by her own poo?

I'm so pleased it is you, smorgs! Very Happy

Me? Not too bad at all.

And you? What have you been up to for the past few years since we last saw you around these parts?

(A thought: Maybe it just feels safer, more comfortable for her to use the kitty litter inside?
If so, she'll grow out of it, I'm sure.
And I think it might be a good idea not to put her kitty litter poo into the spot you'd like her to use. See how that goes. Cats can be pretty fastidious about these things. Old poo might be a bit of a turn-off. Really. Smile )

@msolga,
You could be right. I've never had a cat or kitten that had to be trained to use the litter pan, but I do know people who have offered praise to the young ones when they use it. Enough of that, and they might think that's just what they are supposed to do.

Remember, kittens and young cats are somewhat responsive to what you want. It's not a major concern for adult cats, in my experience.

Hi! I'm okay - how are you?

Anyway, cat-persons, how come Mitzi gaynor can leap, with great accuracy, from one 2 inch surface to another, but she constantly runs in front of my feet when I'm walking? I have (unavoidably) trodden on her paw a couple of times, without injury so far.

My one cat, Mimi, does this! It drives me nuts. I cannot tell you how many times she has gotten caught between my feet and nearly trips me. I get so upset because I am so afraid she is going to get hurt by doing it. I have not found a thing that stops her from doing this.

I SOO know what you mean. Mitzi criss-crosses my feet really fast when I'm walking, why?

Origin of my kitten and her name:

Got 2 kittens (sisters) at 6 weeks old.
Couldn't tell the difference between them (both black and white).
Called them Identi-cats 1 & 2.
Noticed one had a slightly longer white patch on back, they became Bitz and Bobz.
Bitz was very assertive/aggressive, Bobz was calm and rarely had her claws out.
Bitz constantly attacked Bobz, took them to the vets for check over, he said it was fine to separate them.
Gave Bobz to my friends daughter - she is thriving.
Kept psycho-killer Bitz.
Bitz became Mitz, Mitz became Mitzi, Mitzi became Mitzi Gaynor and it stuck.
She's calmer now, but the 'Jaws' theme still plays in my head when I hear her coming up the stairs...
