Speaking of which, was "Rats" the gray cat you spoke of many years ago? I think I recall him. Aaawww

Yes, indeed he was, BorisKitten. He was very, very special to me. But what a memory you have! Surprised

Honoring the memory of "Rats," a Special Cat-Person. <Bows>

Just found this photo of Happy as a tiny baby in his cage at Animal Control, begging me to take him home:

EHN! So I took him home, and he got, well, a bit larger:

Sorry to re-post, but I finally re-figured-out how to get those photos to appear in my post!

@BorisKitten,
Hehe. thank you. Smile It makes me pretty happy especially when Fuzzy will spot me from across the yard, come running at full speed then plop himself down at me feet to be petted. He is a real character.

Speaking of the Humane Society...my ragdoll Tasha was from my local shelter when I went to volunteer one day. She had just been cleared for handing after her spay surgery, her long fur was all knotted, and she had a chipped tooth from trying to get out of a trap. (This is one kitty I could never manage to keep inside) I took her into the get acquainted room and immediately fell in love with her as she head butt my cheek and settled on my chest purring up a storm. I was hooked. had to get special permission from my boss that day to allow me to keep Tasha in the employee bathroom of the resturant I worked in until my shift ended.

My kitties Sugar and Wiley I got from PetsMart who brings in animals to the remote parts of Phoenix area from the Humane Society. This morning my Wiley kitty flopped herself down on the bed, cooing and purring, exposing her belly for big rubs. (suppose I should get video of that it's sooo cute!)

@mm25075,
Oh, I get so Happy when I know others are adopting Shelter Babies! Thanks so much for adopting and volunteering.

I'd LOVE to see videos of all your babies during their Yard Romps, or well, anytime.

I adopted a kitten from PetSmart way back when I lived in Sarasota. He was a rescue, too, had been born under a bush in someone's back yard.

His name was Binky, a beautiful, sweet cat who lived for 15 years.

I'll find a photo somewhere and try to post it.

So does Tasha have all those legendary Ragdoll characteristics, y'know, the Floppiness and such?

The only way my beasts would let themselves get into a position like that would be in preparation for a flying leap, using my back as a springboard. Don't forget the 8 dainty clawmarks so necessary in making an olympic grade broad jump.

@BorisKitten,
Here's Binky, before he crossed the Rainbow Bridge:

And another... he loved to sleep in/on my shoes. Beautiful fur on this guy, obviously a Flame-Point Siamese mix of some sort.

Dainty! That is, I'm sorry to say, Squealing Cute!

Long-hairs like Happy are very calm. He adores being carried around like this (well, you can see that, no doubt).

Technically Happy is a "Medium-Hair," a Maine Coon mix.

mm has a Ragdoll, a floppy, carry-me-around Long-hair from a shelter (like Happy). Hopefully she'll post some pix of Tasha!

Boating photos, anyone? Do ALL cats adopt the "I'm a Boat" position? Certainly all of mine have. It's darned cute, too.

Any other Boat Photos out there?

As for nail cutting, forget it! She imagines I'm going to murder her, or something! Sigh

Actually I've never cut any of my cats' claws, and never had any problems with their claws, either. Sheer luck? And in 30 years, virtually none of my cats has been de-clawed.

Well, I happily allow my indoor babies to claw the furniture, since all my furniture is from thrift stores anyway. Have at it!

Boris acts like I'm cutting his little head right off when I try to put his monthly Advantage on him. He HATES it!

I finally gave in, and now buy the Advantage at the vet's when he gets his monthly anti-allergy shot (Depo-Medro, something like that?). The Vet Tech puts his monthly Advantage on, and says he's "Very Good" for the procedure.

What the heck? I have the scars to prove that Boris turns into a Hellion when I try to put on his monthly Advantage! It's only a TINY amount of fluid.

Happy doesn't even seem to NOTICE when I put his Advantage on.

That's part of the joy: Every cat has his/her individual personality. What drives one cat crazy isn't even noticeable to the next one.

@BorisKitten,
Oy!

Aw yes. Henry recently had an ear infection which meant antibiotics, ear cleaning and drops.

Imagine wrangling with an 18 lb Henry Kitty, wiggling and fighting as MM lifts him unceremoniously and wraps in a blanket which is set carefully inside a small milk crate. Much spray of fluids everywhere, albeit minimal scrathes from the endeavor produces one very unhappy and awful looking 18lb orange cat with attitude!

Medicine must be given completely by surprise, *quick squirt* when Henry leasts expect it. Forget routine, he knows when I'm about to give it to him and suddenly becomes entrenched in the dark bowels under my bed. Wrangling Henry the Lionheart, let's just say he's quite formidible at saying "No!" Wink

@mm25075,
Ehn, an 18-pounder who requires Ear Treatments! You have my sincere sympathies.

The Post-Treatment Head-Shaking, in itself, is, er, EPIC. Then they (cats) realize what you're preparing to do.. good luck with that!

Boris is only 10.5 lbs, yet Mr. "You're Cutting Off My Head" with the monthly Flea-Meds can rip me up to the point where my boss asks me, "What happened to you?"

Er, I can only reply, I tried to put Advantage on my cat.

She laughs!

Idiot.

@BorisKitten,
Boating, oh yes, I think they all do it. We call it the loaf position here. My four can usually be found in various forms of cat loaf. I will have to get some photos scrounged up to post. Meanwhile, do you have a cat that likes to 'dangle'? This is my eldest, Whisper. As you can see he likes to dangle.

@Aldistar,
OMG, Dangling is much more rare and special than Boating!

Sure, any old cat can Boat, but the Dangling, well that's a Special Cat (in my opinion).

@BorisKitten,
Our Coon Cat likes to sleep in really weird positions. Mostly upside down . I was told that this is a breed characteristic. I wish I could post some pictures, Ive got some of her sleeping it off on a windowsill like some old drunk.

We help out a no-kill animal shelter in Callais Maine. Its called P.A.W.S. and these people are all volunteers (keepers and veterinarians). They have managed to find homes for so many animals . Weve often found homes for other poor cast off Maine Coon Cats by showing off our little lady Coon (Calli is her name-after her home town). Nobody dont like a Maine Coon. They are the most lovable gentle giants of the cat world.

Yer Full Floppy Person Dangle, AKA "Cat Shawl/Stole."

Now here's your most desirable Shelter Cat, the one who likes to be picked up and snuggled, purring the whole time.

Kittens & Cats who do NOT like to Dangle like this will NEVER like Dangling. Kittens who love a good snuggle/dangle will ALWAYS love a good Dangle.

I've learned to pick 'em up at the Shelter, where I usually obtain my cats/kittens. If'n they don't care for a Full Dangle as kittens, then, they never will.

Dangle = Good.
