Oh what sorry times are these,
Who can afford parentheses?

Even worse, their price is soaring,
and without them, writing's boring.

My canajun friends say, 'nay',
Only they, can utter, 'eh'.

Please!, I'll refrain AT NIGHT
But daytime eh-ing is my right!

Because my sainted mother thus opines:
We MUST make eh,
while the sun shines.

dlowan, That's my sister! Her son asked me to take her on a trip, because her husband passed away two years ago. I suggested China or Egypt, and she picked Egypt. We also took the extension to Jordan, and was pleasantly surprised by all the things we were able to see and do. The highlight in Jordan was the rock city of Petra, but there are also many other interesting, historical sights in Jordan. Even visited Mt Nebo, the last place Moses lived, and they have a memorial for him. There's also a good view of the Jordan Valley, and Israel. We also visited the lowest point of the earth, the Dead Sea, about 1,293 feet below sea level. c.i.

Yes, MA, the brackets are organically grown. We use slashes, both forward and backward (/ and \) as mulch.

From Australia to the Canadian nation
Everyone's using too much punctuation
And through the night and into the day
we've taken to exclaiming "Eh?!"
Our wits are sharp, vocabularies grow
all in a day's work at ...

Beth
I do hope those feathers you're twirling are on a feather duster. There's nothing nicer than someone getting so much joy out of housework! Shocked Confused

As an aside, I notice that the poorer socioeconomic groups in the far west of Sydney and north Queensland use "eh?" Perhaps it's an education thing??? For those who aren't sufficiently articulate to get out the other'n "Ya know?" Twisted Evil

You will need to tie together a lot of chopsticks ehBeth to reach us from there!

By the way - how is the Canadian "eh" pronounced?

I did not know how to pronounce the Australian one until university, when my tutor in an English Lit class pulled up my pronunciation when I was reading dialogue from a play.

Ours ia pronounced to rhyme with "hay".

Well, Seal, you be a lucky li'l mammal then - bain't you!

Daddy had a harbour seal
It fell in with some loonies,
Now it rides around in cars
And gives the greatest moonies.
