Is this the sole reason you have avoided higher education?

Congratulations. Dyslexia, whats up with ya? You show up now and then with a drive by post, but never offer any opinion based on any in-depth explanation, at least the ones I've seen of late. I appreciate the need for a little humor now and then however, if that is your main offering?

Well yeah I suppose in a way it is, I have a hard time taking any of you republicans or demoscats seriously which doesn't leave much room for serious dialogue. Personally Okie I find you so agenda driven as to be less "Liberals are evil" doesn't really equate with reasonable thinking.

Well, thanks for the comment. I thought this forum was all about dialogue. Don't be afraid to try it. Thats what it should be all about here.

I can vote for a senator or a mayor, but there is no assurance they will do what I want, and I still have to pay them for it. I have to pay nothing to a corporation if I don't want to, I simply don't buy anything from them, and if enough people feel the same as me, they go out of business.

THE POINT IS THAT WHEN ALL INDEPENDENT STORES ARE RUN OUT OF THE AREA -- WHETHER IT IS BY BIG CHAINS, A LA A & P AND MOM-AND-POP GROCERIES IN THE 1930S OR BY LANDLORDS WHO INFLATE THE RENT IN ORDER TO LEASE THEIR BUILDINGS TO THE GAP RATHER THAN SUSANNA'S FASHIONS -- YOU HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO STAY HOME.

This is an example of 5th grade writing:

Okie -- It's called humor. Satire. Dyslexia is very adept at it and very funny.

plainoldme, I simply illustrated the absurd, which was your statement about corporations, with absurdity, which is my statement about universities. It was written in the same format as your statement, so if it was 5th grade language and you don't like it, please feel free to apologize to yourself.

plainoldme, I hope you don't mind the humor here, but frankly, I enjoy this thread because you continue to throw softballs right down the middle of the plate, and they are so easy to hit out of the park. Are you dead serious about some of your ideas? They are so disconnected from reality, I have to wonder. I would suggest you go run a business for a while and educate yourself just a tiny bit concerning the realities of it. Perhaps you could begin to recover just a little from your misconceptions and purely academic opinions.

Okie -- You are fond of asking people whether they ever ran businesses or worked for major corps. Well, I know of dozens of corporations that were started by failed university teachers -- the ones who didn't get tenured -- solely for the purpose of selling them to large companies. If you weren't so naive, maybe we could talk with you instead of at you.

Psychopaths thrive as executives in large corporations. GWB is also a psychopath.

And what was Governor Landrieu doing?
What was Ray Nagin doing?

If you are going to be honest (which I know you dont like to do),then you must admit that ALL parties and admins screwed up,not just Bush.

okie -- Twice you have tried to use what you considered humor on this thread and were misunderstood. That's because you have repeatedly demonstrated that you don't read very well. There is something in literature called the unreliable narrator. You are its real life equivalent. Because you can not read well, you write things people don't trust.

Furthermore, you are a corporate tool. Saw Supersize Me today, a movie you should see, but, we all know you won't.

But, let us return to the topic of this thread. Respect. It is very difficult to respect people who can not read.

Here's a story that illustrates something about respect.

I chose not to read The Da Vinci Code because the review I read of it when it was newly published told me it wasn't literature.

I decided to see the movie, however, largely because I am a fan of Audrey Tatou. The bad reviews stirred me toward waiting until it was in second run, but a friend asked me to go with her and I did.

After the movie, the friend asked whether I had read the book and offered to loan it to me. Had we gone for a drink or a meal afterwards, I would have had the opportunity to explain why I chose not to read it. Without time, I opted to say that I wasn't interested.

The next day, we were at a dinner involving a group of women who regularly socialize. A woman brought up DVC. My friend said she didn't think I liked it. The other woman asked whether I had read the book and I said no. She then launched into how people who hadn't read the book could not understand the movie.

No, the movie stunk. I hated it because the dialog was terrible.

I wanted to tell her the whole thing but simply said, "I know a great deal about Mary MAgdalene, so I understood the movie."

My daughter felt the woman was rude. I don't think she was intentionally rude but she did appear stupid.

That's part of the conundrum society faces today. College graduates participate in mass culture then think it something more than the "LCD."

When you make an accusation, please cite evidence.

I don't put much stock in any movie, which are largely based on imagination and fiction.

I don't work for any corporation. I simply have expressed my appreciation for the goods and products available from businesses in the free market, some of which are corporations. I have asked people on this forum for any viable alternative to corporations providing the goods and services to us, and I have yet to see any clear answer from anybody. Again, plainoldme, do you care to try answering that question or do you wish to just continue to criticize those people that are the producers in this society, and accuse them of greed and other ugly things? Instead of criticism, how about some constructive solutions to go along with your criticisms?
