I doubt that the "draft dodger" campaign mentioned above is going to have any impact on Rudi. First of all, you would have to be about 60 years old to even know what the draft was about. Anyone much younger than that (I am 60) has no knowledge of what was going on back then, except perhaps to make the connection that there was an unpopular war going on in a far away place, which we were losing. And perhaps they might understand the concept of the draft, where every male between 18 and some upper limit could be pulled off the street and sent to Vietnam.
-snip-
I don't that there is a stigma associated with finding a way to avoid the draft 35 years ago that would impact a candidate.
I dunno about that, RJB. I'm 36, I certainly am well aware of the draft et al. The fact that someone is a draft-dodger doesn't matter to me, but that doesn't mean that it wouldn't matter to a Republican my age. It contributes to a sense of wimpiness, running away from a fight, not taking the opportunity to be a man, etc., etc. Those implications, in the right/ wrong hands, can be potent, especially since Rudy is currently running so much on his tough guy 9/11 image.
YouTube deletes McCain 'Bomb Iran' video RAW STORY

YouTube has admitted to erroneously deleting the video of Sen. John McCain singing "Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran" but has vowed to restore it, according to a report by CNet's News.com.
'We appreciate the prompt feedback from our community regarding the McCain video,' a YouTube spokesman was quoted as saying. 'It was flagged by our users, we reviewed it and it was mistakenly removed. We have examined the situation and have since reinstated the video.'
The report continued, "The spokesman refused to answer any other questions, such as when, exactly, the video was deleted or what procedures are in place to ensure that political candidates don't use YouTube's complaint procedure to squelch critics."
As RAW STORY reported previously, Sen. McCain sang the tune during a campaign stop in South Carolina. McCain was asked a question from an audience member about an attack on Iran, and began his response by singing "Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran" to the tune of Beach Boys song "Barbara Ann." McCain has since defended his remark, telling critics to "lighten up."
Didn't seem to slow Clinton down any.
Different demographic though. The people who elected him WERE the draft-dodgers. The draft-dodgers already don't like Rudy. The Republicans who Rudy needs to win won't like the draft-dodging.

And how are you only 36? I'm going on 39 and my sis is two years older than I...
And Bush, and Cheney? Who was it that dismissed his lack of service by claiming that he "had more inportant things to do."
36? Sozobe says she is 36? I, like Bill. am a little skeptical. Has Sozobe, like Alberto Gonzales, forgotten things that she meant to remember but can't remember right now? Like birthdays.
Whats wrong with him singing it?
You are showing either how young you actually are,or how poor your memory actually is.
In 1979,during President Carters bungling of the Iran hostage crisis,Vince Vance and the Valiants wrote a song called "Bomb Iran"
It was to the tune of the Beach Boys "BarbraAnn"
It was a novelty song, but it was quite popular for a while.

So,why is anyone getting so upset and worked up about a song that is almost 30 years old?
I am so not scanning and posting my birth certificate... though between the two of you it's getting tempting...
It didn't help Bush or Cheney, but it wasn't quite enough to sink 'em. (Do remember that it's not like Bush even won a popular majority in 2000...) I don't think this will sink Rudy by itself, either. But I do think it'll slow him down (O'Bill) and I definitely think that there are Republicans/ Independents under 60 who will take exception (RJB). In particular, Rudy's qualifications are thin, and his 9/11 hero thing is a major part of what he's running on -- some would say ALL he's running on. The draft-dodger bit erodes that specific image.

That fits with the coming as going thing... I had just assumed you were around my age... but don't laugh to hard; because you will be next week.

Oh, I agree it's not good... but I don't think it makes a lick of difference in the General, and thus far no one else is polling well enough to have a real shot at in the General (Save McCain, but he's 1000 years old, and folks don't like that). We've all held our nosed while voting and so far I still think the Republicans that like Rudy least are still votes in the bag if it looks like 'Rudy or a Democrat' is the option. I've heard and read a lot of Democrats saying they'd never vote for Hillary, too; but they're just as full of it. Proof? Newt Vs. Hillary; your move.

Hey, hey, Soz is 36 - I know, cause I know she's my age, and I'm 35..
(I can't figure out if this age stuff is an insult as a compliment -- if it's based on my posting I'll take it as the latter, if it's based on my picture I'll take it as the former... ;-))
Rudy can't seem to figure out just
how he feels about them durn illegals...
...In contrast to his years as mayor, when he fought federal efforts to curtail public hospital or educational services to illegal immigrants, he now talks of penalties for people here illegally and requirements for them to wait at the back of the line.

I dont know, put it to music and then let me hear it.
It might be very funny.
...as a crutch. But, no accounting for taste...
Hmmm... looks like the repugs might start chewing on each other in earnest...

I watch one whole hour of prime time a week. One. Why do they keep scheduling the debates for that hour? Grr.
I'll watch during commercials and then watch when "Survivor" is over. (Is it another 90-minute debate?)
Can someone send nimh and Thomas laptops, stat? Political wonkhood has been very lonely lately!
(Anyone watch the debate?)
I thought Romney did best in terms of how he came across -- animated, charismatic, articulate. But his actual positions were eh.
Giuliani didn't look so good. Squinty, didn't have that much authority. Had to do a lot of triangulating, not seem too liberal.
McCain was actually pretty good -- he seemed straight-talky a coupla times. Looked so frail and old, though. Really limping at the end (didn't see the beginning).
