I'm so lost.... I'm just gonna drop it.
Lost? Ooops! I'm sorry if any of us got you sidetracked Perplexed. I think the political correctness does go along with the title of the thread; however, plenty of these other posts don't.
Let's see if we can get it back on track. Have a question we can start with? A comment?
I'm sorry I was part of getting your thread off topic. I will do my best to not let that happen again.
No no no, please don't misunderstand me! This political correctness conversation and discussions baout how we should relate to people different from ourselves is EXACTLY what I was hoping would emerge from this thread!
By "lost" I mean I've missed quite a lot of material and lost track of what everyone's current positions and arguements are, and I'm simply too lazy to review it all:P
You misrepresented ME! Perplexed is NOT a girl!
You even asked me my gender before, why would you think I'm a girl?
hehe, it's okay...
btw, CUTE emote!
I am, unfortunately, addicted to them, much to the chagrin of others.
Ooops! I got you off topic! Bad Momma! Bad!
Setanta has an incisive intellect that cuts most others to shreds. If he comes across as abrasive, well that what you get when you start messing with sharp implements.

Some don't intend to mess with sharp implements. They are just left in the field where one innocently trips over them.
I can't believe snood lectured anyone else about personal attacks.
Also. If no one claims to be anti-Muslim, or yells at members, due to their Muslimnity, I don't think this board is anti-Muslim.
I have claimed to be anti-muslim as much as I have claimed to be anti-christian and anti-hebrew. I am also experienced with personal attacks.
The Dys sucks at the personal attack.
Part of his clarm.
<a new word Jespah taught me>
<dys contemplates this turn of events>
the dys never contemplates, that is his clarm.
Dangit people, quit messin' with the power of the clarm!
Oh, sorry for the offtopic Perplexed. Carry on.
I've been watching this thread for some time but nobody seems to have considered the historical context which prompted perplexed to ask his question. That context is specifically the increase in suicidal terrorism which is almost entirely perpetrated by people who call themselves "muslims". There has a "natural" backlash against all who claim that label and this backlash is exacerbated by the fact that condemnation of the atrocities by other muslims has been seen as less than satisfactory by most non-muslims. Perplexed then asks if "this board" is anti-muslim (i.e. impervious to the general trend) and then follows a lot of fancy footwork about "political correctness" which avoids the central issue which is this:
Can those who ascribe to some religious or political label thereby gaining the security of a "group identity" logically argue against the social hazards of such a label ?
I would say no. Hazards of membership can only be reduced by the policing by fellow members to ensure their "label" is not brought into disrepute.
I think it is up to each and every one of us to realize that just because SOME or a FEW or ONE of someone are doing something that makes the others look bad, it does not mean they are all bad!
Ya know, the old "one bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch?" It seems we are now throwing away the entire apple tree because a worm crawled into an apple.
It's going to take effort on EVERYONE's part to change this situation. I can't change your views, actions, etc., and you can't change mine or anyone else's. We have to start at personal responsibility. If we could all look at ourselves, individually, then perhaps we will stop looking at the wrongs of others. And, it starts with me......................
MA,
You make a simplistic argument about stereotypes.
Do you not see that perplexed's question itself involves the steroetype "anti muslim" ? This is a generality which serves his perception of social reality. My take on social reality is that all labels involve stereotypes, but in order to make "sense" of such reality we are stuck with them when arguing in general terms in order to reduce information overload.
Your statement that "change" must start with "yourself" is understandable for the purposes of one to one transactions, but may be idealistic in terms of social reality.
