you're right, you're right. Least I can do is watch my diet, eat regularly and sensibly. Will do my best.
Dag, those pictures are great!! Just saw them.
How're you holding up, dag? I bet y'all rehearsed like crazy over the weekend.
Well, things are busy, but wonderful. Yesterday was one of the best days ever. I stick around after the shows to do my little projects I took on (I was sewing shoes onto the fake legs I made). Ryan (director) asked me to design the stage for a bedroom scene, which is what I'll be doing today (sewing draperies and stuff) and he's having me in yet another dance number. That's quite bittersweet though, because he's kicking out a girl that can't do the dance well. I will feel positively guilty, but what can I do.
We're doing full costume rehearsals and tech - lights, sounds, etc.... It's tedious, tiring, but still (to me) exciting and fun. Just being in that space with a stage gives me a feeling of richness and fulfillment.
Last night we stepped out for a smoke in our Roman outfits - a little (and when I say little, I mean little) white toga, bay leaf wreath, sandals, the whole thing. it was quite funny, as there was about ten of us. people stopped and stared. i was approached by a drunk asshole who took a fancy in me, wanted my number and all. he's been following me the whole evening, apparently stumbled into the theater downstairs about three times looking for me... loser. and to think that people thought he's my boyfriends...ACK!!!
when i was leaving for the night, i overheard one of the leads saying :"I like Dasha, she's awesome", and several people agreed. I was, as littlek would certainly confirm, floating on Cloud No. 9 ever since.
i would like to take this time to apologize for hitting on you outside the theater last night, dag...
I'm really glad you're enjoying yourself, dag.
In my experience, the only thing that actors hate more than tech rehearsals is photo calls.
I LOVED the photo calls. When you look on their web, I'm in the press photos, and very proud of it. It was so much fun, we were literally crying. I guess you can tell on some photos.
Heres our website dag, its only new and not much on it as far as pic go but there you are

Had a similar experience in full Mikado costume and make up. 6 of us went to a restaurant 4 doors up the street for lunch during an all day rehearsal. The other patrons were.......agog.
I worked at a theater where they made the actors sign an oath that they wouldn't eat or drink anything but water while in costume. They could only smoke or drink coffee with an extra shirt (or some such) on top of their costumes. It saved a lot of cleaning bills...
Dadpad, is that you in the suspenders?
no k i'm the one in the white hat (3 pics to the right.) (Good guys always wear white hats)
They wont let me put my pic up cause I upstage everyone!
yaaaawn. i am SOOOOO tired. only three more rehearsals to go. that's insane.
Has it come together yet dag? had a full runthrough?
or are you at the stage where you are tearing your hair out saying this is never going to come together.
Tech rehearsals suck
full runtrhough today. and tomorrow and the day after. well.... "full".... there's still stuff to clean up. but apparently we're in good shape and all the leads believe we have a hit on our hands.
ok rule number 1 from now. when you are on stage you are ON STAGE.
This means as if a full house is watching.
dont stop!
Even when the others stuff up, keep going. (unless the director calls it of course.)
THE OLD PLAY XII
(adapted from Kenneth Slessor)
You that we raise to high places
with your painted eyes and cloudy faces
You that are named but no one finds
Made out of nothing by our minds
be true to us Play us not false
be great, O gods
be fabulous
You are our statue cut from space
Gorgons eyes and dragons face
Fail us not, you that we made
when the stars go out and the sun fades.
You are our hope
nothing less
Leave us not crying
in emptyness.
I may not be here for a day or two but i feel my heart doing the double time thing like what happens before we open here.
Break a leg sweetness.
Another opening, another show.
2:15 am. just got home. besides rehearsing my own part, i also became the chorus problem-solver... i take on the costumes of the bitchiest members that i'm sick of listening to their whining and fix them up. Also to get them out of the hair of the poor overworked costume makers. in that sense i certainly feel to be more part of the permanent crew. the full cast is almost 30 people. chorus has about 4 costume changes (about 17 people), the leads, i don't even know. many. we had one guy on the sewing for 4 weeks, joined by another woman 10 days ago. altogether it is well over 100 costumes. plus wigs, jewelry, all the trinkets that come along. and some little miss choruspants is always complaining that something is sticking out, or too tight, and it makes my blood curdle on the spot. worry not. mediation is my profession, and i have been raised by a family therapist. i never boil over, just fix things on the sly. though i wish i could snap every now and then. boy, that must feel wonderful.
I come at 3 or 4pm every night, leave at midnight, or 1am, or 2am, depends.
last rehearsal tomorrow. we're gonna try to run through the whole show twice. somehow i'm not nervous at all. perhaps being exhausted helps with that. it seems unreal.
mental note: ask littlek to take a picture of the Secret Senate meeting. The guy I bought the shower hat from on ebay would love a picture of his hat on the stage, I promised him I'll do that. It's gotta be without flash, but littlek is a good photographer, she'll figure it out.
good night, Egypt. Good night Clean Queopatra (a slip that Caesar keeps on making and we keep peeing our pants every time he gets it wrong. Actually, it is now staying as part of the show.). Good night y'all.
Thanks for the update, dag. Breakaleg at the dress rehearsal(s)!
