I'm glad you let us know, Montana. I've been wondering about this. I'm sorry you aren't feeling any better. I hope you are at least comfortable until you get to the doctor. My prayers are with you.

Thanks Momma. I know you tend to worry, so I thought you'd want to know.

The good news is that I'm not feeling any worse, just not any better and I think I waited long enough to know that this is something that won't just go away on it's own.

Thanks for caring and I'll be sure to let you know how things go :-)

Well, I just got back from the doc and he also says it sounds like an ulcer, but he's sending me for tests to find out for sure.
In the mean time he game me some meds for an ulcer and it works for acid reflux as well, if that happens to be my problem.

Momma
You're the one who convinced me to go and I thank you so much because I feel better now that I went.
Not better physically, but just getting it done with because this is something that won't go away on it's own.

Thanks :-D

Montana,

I am so glad that you decided to go. I think we all know how easy it is to put things off because we don't think it may be a big deal.

I hope all your tests come out well, Montana. Please keep us updated.

I'm just one of those people who hate going to doctors and having tests done, so I really have to push myself.

I sure will keep you updated. As soon as I know, you'll know.

Thanks again :-)

Went for my other test this morning where I had to drink this thick chalk type liquid with these pellet things. Yuk!

So now I wait for the call from my doc after he has all the results.

You mean a barium meal?

I've had one of those (well, two actually). One at each end.

If it IS AN ULCER, Montana, it is quite usual for the Doc to simply prescribe two different antibiotics which, when combined, kill the little buggers that are causing all the trouble.

If they put you on this regime, you must try and consume at least two or three "live" yoghurts per day, to encourage the return of your "good" bacteria in the gut.

Find the point where your rib cage meets and press just underneath (the soft bit). That is just about spot on where your stomach is, and someone with an ulcer will find it pretty painful. If it's not painful, chances are you've got something else....reflux? Allergy to certain food? (Gluten or doughy white bread is nearly always the culprit)

Good luck with the test results, and don't worry about your poo for a while. The barium meal will make it nice and white.

I don't know what they call it, but it sure an hell wasn't no milkshake!

Ok, lets see here. There's no pain in the area you describe. I doubt it's reflex because I don't have much heartburn, but then I really don't know the symptoms for acid reflux. <a reminder to myself to do some research>

I barely ever eat white bread, so I don't think that would be it.

I've also read somewhere that ulcers are not always painful, especially if they're found and treated early in the game.

You mean I'm going to have white poop? I'm glad you told me that as I'm not very fond of those kind of surprises ;-)

Thanks for the info Dr. Ellpus :-D

I just did some research on acid refux and I sure hope it's not that because it can't be cured and I'd be stuck with it for life.

That's true, Montana but they have some wonderful medicines for that today. Prevacid, Prilosec, etc. But, I hope that's not what it is. I guess in this case, an ulcer would be preferable.

Yes, it sure would. Just the thought of having to take meds for the rest of my life is depressing :-(

I just did more research on ulcers and going by my symptoms, I'm leaning towards an ulcer. That can be treated, so I'm hoping.

just got back from the doc and I guess I have acid reflux, but it has caused some scaring in my asophigas (spelling?) and he says it needs to be removed. I have to go a specialist and have the test where they put a camera down your throat and then they have to put something down my throat to stretch it, or something to effect.

I'm ok and that's what's impotant :-)

Not looking forward to the next steps, though :-(

The main symptom of my small ulcer some years ago was nausea. But I did not have the bacterium. My wife had the bacterium but not the ulcer--go figure.

Thanks Osso.

That is strange. I would have prefered it were an ulcer, where he could have given me meds to clear it up and send me along my merry way, but no, I had to have something that's going to haunt me the rest of my life. <sigh>

Oh well, it certainly could be worse, so I'm counting me blessings.

The fix will only be temporary and doc says I'll be good for 5 years, but once you have acid reflux, you can never get rid of it, so it's something I'll be dealing with for the rest of my days.
The good news is that he says it's only a mind case and I wouldn't want to know what a severe case feels like Shocked
