djjd, I really like that! I like the image and the sentiment. I think that's a great way to look at things. Nicely done.

I started printing up copies of my postcards today and find that I like them even more when they're little things I can hold in my hand. They're like some kind of weird little flash card.

For those of you who might not have printed them up, I really recommend it!

Boomer, that last one was simply amazing. The image was very cool, but the words themselves were even better. I feel like that sometimes. You really captured something that is hard to capture.

Thank you very much, FreeDuck.

It is somehow comforting to know that someone else sometimes feels that way too.

That is my favorite one printed up. It is almost impossible to read. You really have to strain to see it.

Another beautiful one. I've felt like that sometimes, too. Your words there are beautiful.

I think all married couples (or people in ltr for that matter) can relate to that one...

The pic is blurry, but it's still evident that Ms. JP looks very cool. (You too, but I already knew that...)

I have kid-having advice that is unsolicited so I'll keep my lip zipped unless you ask.

Yep... sad isn't it?

It is a jp/sb family tradition to always use the last picture on the roll to take a picture of the picture taker (aim the camera back at yourself and take your own picture). This has been modified at times to include nice backgrounds (ie, the acropolis in athena or out the London eye) and various people, but the idea is always to take it quickly and without much set-up/thought. It often ends up a little blurry but is usually my favorite picture on the roll.

[tangent]On a side note, I usually except technological advances with open arms, but really think that the digital camera movement has it all wrong. The color isn't as good. The quality isn't as good. The picture selection isn't as selective and therefore, IMO, not as personal. They rarely get printed out and often are simply deleted. There are good things about digital cameras but I will shed a tear the day 35mm film is no longer available for use.[/tangent]

As far as being cool... sb is the best and it was oftly nice of you to include me too

these are fantastic - how did I miss this thread until now? I've loved looking at all the really imaginative images.

I'm off to upload some images of a very 'poor me' project I did! I was working part time, doing my degree part time and coping with family, friends etc and I'm not very good at juggling Embarrassed this book was a project about that and my utter boredom at work and my desperation to escape - I have since Very Happy

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y98/vivien2/rs1anon.jpg

the cover of the book (surname disguised  )

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y98/vivien2/rs8.jpg
it was printed on a mixture of canson mi teintes pastel paper and acetate. The acetate pages (sometimes 3 deep) created overlays, so that the image changed as you turned the pages.

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y98/vivien2/rs8a.jpg

there's loads more!

I used a couple of quotes in it - one the 'not waving but drowning' Stevie Smith and the other from Shakespeare -'time that knits up the ravelled sleave of care', which I used as the title.

I was trying to show the layers and layers of things I was juggling (as we all do), not always successfully. Time was a recurring theme as it was always time to rush to class, time to hand in an assignment, time for work, time to shop, time to ....

It was all done with photographs or scans and photoshop with lots of layering and manipulation in photoshop and then often the layering again with acetates in the book.

Very nice Vivien. The motion in the images is very powerful.

You must have worked where I am working now... I know exactly how you feel and am happy that you were able to escape.

it's awful isn't it when you are trapped in a hated job and you are counting seconds til you escape - it makes you so tired as well Crying or Very sad

Once I'd finished the degree I was free to move on. Very Happy

Wow, Vivien... that's gorgeous, in a few ways.

JP, I don't really have anything fresh to say. I think I've said it before -- there is never going to be a perfect time to have kids, and if you're waiting for it, you'll be waiting a long time. Which doesn't mean you have to go for it right now, either, of course.

jpin - I love that postcard and I love the photo tradition of using the last image on the roll for yourselves. The happy image and the sad words -- very moving.

Welcome to the thread, Vivien!

Your book is absolutely amazing. I love the layers. Stunning.
