Quetzecoatal was the featherd serpent of the Aztecs. In human form Quetzecoatal was a pale, bearded god who was an importan bringer of culture to the Aztec. Quetzecoatl disappeared across the eastern sea promising to return. Aztec astralogers predicted his return around what would have been the beginning of the 16th century, CE. This fact has often been cited as one of the reasons that Mexico fell so easily to the Spanish.
In this abstract you may find a number of references to the Aztecs, and to the Spanish.
