Mini-biographies

On another thread we were discussing the art/confessional Post Secret. I thought about sending something in until I decided I didn't really have that good of a secret.

But still I liked the idea of playing around with words and pictures. I do that kind of thing with photos of Mo all the time but I'd never unleashed it on myself.

So I thought I'd create some mini-biography pages; postcard sized things that I could tuck away somewhere.

It was a lot of fun.

I came up with three that I like.

Please post your own mini-biographies too!

Here's mine:

Wowee.

By the way that's who I thought the poem was about when you first posted it. ("Left your valuables here", after all.)

Did I already say that? :-? (Deja vu.)

Anyway.

Wowee.

I have a tetchy scanner and no decent photo programs so not sure what I can come up with, but I like the challenge.

What a powerful way to express thoughts. It sort of reminds me of book arts, but even more to the point.

Thank you, djjd.

I think that is an emotion we can all relate to in a way.

And that is partly what makes this so tough an assignment. Distilling things down to something that feels like "shared".

I've spent the biggest chunk of the day working on these three. Even then, I went back to some old writing and an old image and some internet images.

And some old thoughts too.

But it has been a nice meditation on my life.

Thank you all for your comments!

Soz, I think you might be the only person who ever figured out who that was really about.

like this idea, playing around with paint (the only real editing tool i have)

i find songs can say what i want with less muss, less fuss

used to hate when my dad went home after weekends together, and used to hate the song for that pain it caused

learned to deal with both eventually

Ouch, djjd.

That is the saddest song ever. So many people know that feeling but it is different for ever single person. That photo illustrates it beautifully.

I like this idea too. It's kind of like blurting it all out but it, unlike blurting, takes some patience and thought and consideration.

djjd is good at this.

I find myself pingponging between saccharine and maudlin.

Hmph.

I think you just have to dive in, soz. It feels kind of risky, I know.

It's one of those things where when it feels like everything comes together just right, you know it.

Even if nobody else understands why you left empty space or why the image makes sense.

Ha, interesting choice of words... :-)

Still a bit on the maudlin side, but here goes:

(Made with blunt instruments of Microsoft Word and a screen capture. The image is one of an old print I have.)

very nice soz, the text on mine is a little hard to read

here it is, it's from a tom waits song, makes me think of my grandmothers

In a land there's a town
And in that town there's a house
And in that house
There's a woman
And in that woman
There's a heart I love
I'm gonna take it
With me when I go
I'm gonna take it
With me when I go

It really should be "is", not "are", shouldn't it?

Fixed the font on the middle one too.

Great, evocative photo, djjd.

could be either one i suppose

i like this game, chasing down pics on google and bending them to my will, i must get some other type of editor, paint is very limiting

I don't even have Paint! That was just in a regular Word document. (Insert picture, then word art, then screen capture.)

I'm definitely feeling limited. The text wouldn't go just where I wanted it to, etc.

Both of those are very good, soz and djjd.

Speaking as someone who has always been a fish out of water, I don't consider that maudlin at all, soz. I consider it something everyone should consider.

I don't think "easy" is necessarily in order, djjd. Why should it be easy?

As soz was desiging her "fish" card I was desiging a fishy card of my own:

Hmm, part of it is that I am sometimes IN water -- and that's lovely. (ASL environment.) Maybe I should figure out a way to convey that part...

Cool one boomer.
