Ouch. Tico has gotten very clever this week. He benched most all of his pitching staff. I win in a few categories (IP, W, SV etc) But I lose in a number of others due simply to his pitchers' absence. ER, HR BB, ERA, WHIP etc. You can win a category by not playing anyone. He is doing well with that strategy.
Meanwhile, his hitters have done very, very well.

I can change the league settings to have a minimum of innings pitched per week. Meaning if you don't have the minimum number of innings pitched you don't get credit for any of the pitching categories.

No, No. In the grand scheme of the universe, I really don't care that much about whether Tico benches his pitchers. But it doesn't seem quite cricket (Um, Johnboy, we are not playing cricket).
Play on.

Is there anyone else I can offer that would change your mind?

Not right now, that was the offer I would've taken. It's only been 7 weeks and I only see their names and numbers but I'm beginning to become emotionally attached to the guys.

Thanks. I was just checking the standings and at first I thought I'd lose horribly as even Tico's Arnoldlike arms lost to yours. But my pitchers continued to pitch superbly (1.76 ERA) and my bats did just enough to take a 6-5 lead in batting.

Key to all this was benching J. Weaver... again.

And it's back to the start

Sure, take advantage of me while I'm hurt.

B. McCann's day-to-day (ankle), L. Berkman (hamstring) and T. Glaus (elbow) are banged up, and D. Lee and G. Sheffield are both on the DL.

But we'll still give you a good match up, I think.

Okay, never mind about Glaus .... he just homered.

But of course I had him benched b/c of his injury.

Dammit.

Nothing personal against Tico, but I hope jpinmilw crushes him. Absolutely crushes him. No mercy. Crush him like a cigarette butt on a sidewalk.
As for you, Pancho, the Rednecks are going to send you even deeper into last place. You watch.
Have a nice day. -johnboy-

Hey, no need for unnecessary roughness, you redneck!
Not even after beating Slappy's forgotten team I abandoned the basement Sad

I am taking advantage of Slappy while he's down, which is something I suspect he enjoys.

One of my players, Carl Crawford of Tampa Bay, went 5 for 5 Wednesday. 4 singles and a home run. He scored 5 runs and stole 4 bases. AND I had him in my lineup!

Two months down. Yahoo has the official league rankings but here is how we stand through May in rankings by matchups (although I didn't know what to do about matchups that ended in ties. Is 2-6-0 better than 1-5-2?)

JPinmilw 5-2-1 (#1 in Yahoo ranking)
Boston Puppies 5-3-0 (#1 in Yahoo)
Fiery Tamales 5-3-0 (#3)
Pancakes 5-3-0 (#4)
Rednecks 4-3-1 (#5)
Tico 3-5-0 (#6)
Pancho 2-6-0 (#7)
Sister 1-5-2 (#8)

After our first head to head rematches:
Rednecks (2); Pancho (0)
Boston (2) Sister (0)
Pancakes (2); Tamales (0)
Jpinmilw (1); Tico (1)

So yesterday I decided to play Peavy and Mulder even though they were playing each other. I was already down by 2 losses so it was highly unlikely I'd win that category. I figured it would be a low scoring game, right?.... right?

Wrong!

San Diego 10, St. Louis 8

San Diego IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA
Peavy (W, 4-5) 5.0 9 6 6 0 6 2 4.15

St. Louis IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA
Mulder (L, 5-3) 4.1 10 8 8 1 3 3 4.52

After a brief sabatical I return to my rightful postion of first place... thanks in part to the crushing defeat of the TicoManiacs.

(of course I do have to share the honor with those pesky Boston Puppies at the moment...)

I feel your pain. I have Buehrle and Sabathia facing each other today. 2 aces. One on a good team and one who has been really hot of late.

I started Buehrle... we'll see...
