What's that got to do with Religion which is supposed to be walking the high ground???

It's patently false that the Soviet Union and China were or are atheistic.

This seems to be saying that it is of no consequence if it is done by atheists. Shocked

Watch your blood pressure. I wouldn't want you to bust anything. It is only a discussion.

Anon,

Can I please ask you a question? Have you had some personal experience that has caused you to feel this way or do you feel this way in general about religion?

Would a secular democratic government be considered atheistic, I wonder?

I doubt it. It would merely leave religion where it belonged...........in private homes, and in houses of worship. IMO, religion has no PUBLIC PLACE AUTHORIZED BY THE GOVERNMENT, in a democracy.

What people do PRIVATELY, on their own, is their business. And THAT is the wonderful thing about a true democracy. That is, a person in a free society can run the gamut from super religious, to atheist, without any government interference.

A couple actually. First, I learned to think for myself and look at things logically.( I was 4-5 at the time) Secondly, I've watched the strong, venal and powerful use organized religion to control the weak, the frightened, and the ignorant. That puts it simplistically, it actually goes much deeper than that, but the explanation is complete enough for this discussion.

Anon,

You were 4 or 5 at the time and you looked at things logically? Wow. I am impressed. I don't think I started thinking logically for a long time after that. I am sincere in this question, Anon. Do you have a higher than average IQ? I understand that people that have higher than average IQs start to develop them very young? I'm not positive about that statement but think I have heard it was true.

I am sorry that you have bad experiences with religion, Anon. So many have. I just wish that you could see that it is not God that is responsible for that but it is mankind that has done this.

Thank you for answering me. I do appreciate it.

Finally! Something that has not gone over your head. Indeed, I do not blame "GOD" ... I know it is mankind that does it! Unfortunately, the faithful are easy targets, and they DON"T realize it.

Easy targets? Now you are really showing your true colours. Who are you to determine what goes over somebody's head? If you are as intelligent as you think you are, this kind of remark would not even be made.
