As an aside, an opinion can also be formed by a noticeable lack of information.

This is true of anyone. Unless one has all the information.

This is true, though rather silly to point out.

It was kinda silly to point out. I think being silly is often 'catchy'.

Please show me how your personal beliefs accord with the bulk of Christian teachings, and the bulk of Christian history.

Also are all what you call "opinions" equal in merit?

Chumly,

That's quite a different question I think. I thought you asked about my beliefs in relation to Christianity in the Bible? Which do you want an answer to?

I think everyone deserves the same respect. Of course, this means you don't have to accept my opinion or anyone else's for that matter. They do have equal value in the respect everyone has the right to them.

Both questions have much the same focus.
You did not understand the first one so I rephrased it for you
Please re-read them carefully
I did not say "in the Bible"
It's not that tough a question

I did not ask you if everyone has an equal right to an opinion. Please re-read the question carefully.
It's not that tough of a question.

Are all what you call "opinions" equal in merit?

Please take some time to think about what I am asking, thanks!

Chumly.

This is your original question.

Quote:
Mom,
Further would you please explain what your personal beliefs have to do with Christianity as per the bible?

You then asked this question:

Quote:
Please show me how your personal beliefs accord with the bulk of Christian teachings, and the bulk of Christian history.

Also are all what you call "opinions" equal in merit?

If you will forgive me, those are two different questions. The Christianity in the bulk of history (that I believe you are speaking of) has very little to do with the actual teachings of Christ in the Bible, which is where I believe the big problem about Christianity is coming from.

Chumly, I am not slow, ok? The parts I don't understand I ask questions about. I gave you my answer. Opinions are equal in that everyone has the right to them. As far as what is with merit to you or to me or to anyone else has everything to do with our own beliefs. Therefore, you have no right to tell me my opinion is wrong and I have no right to tell you that your opinion is wrong.

As to question #1
I did not ask you if you felt everyone had a right to an opinion.
I did ask you about beliefs.
I did not ask you about wrong or right.
I did not ask you about judgment.

I asked: "Are all what you call "opinions" equal in merit?"

Here is the meaning of merit as intended in this context:
The factual content of a matter, apart from emotional, contextual, or formal considerations

As to question #2
I did not say they were the "same".
As you did not understand the question I rephrased it.
They both pertain to the same underlying catalyst, so you can choose either one, or you are welcome to answer both.

I asked: "Would you please explain what your personal beliefs have to do with Christianity as per the bible?"
- rephrased -
I asked: "Please show me how your personal beliefs accord with the bulk of Christian teachings, and the bulk of Christian history."

I have never accused you of being "slow" and I am sure you can answer the questions.

Cheers,
Chum

Chumly,

I HAVE answered your question about opinions. You may not like the answer but I did answer it.

And I am still not clear on that other question. I am sorry but I don't know what bulk of Christianity you are talking about. I would imagine our thoughts differ on this greatly.

You did not accuse me of being slow but you did mention a couple of times it's not a hard question. It may not be, but I don't fully understand it so I ask.

Chumly,

I have answered the question about opinions to the best of my ability. Seeing that you seem to require proof and not faith and I require faith and not proof, I would imagine our ideas of what is fact to you and what is fact to me might be somewhat different. You obviously didn't like my answer because you won't even accept it as an answer.

I follow the teachings of Christ in the Bible. I don't follow any certain church doctrine. And no, it doesn't help because what bulk of Christianity are you talking about? Who do you consider the bulk to be? Fundamentalists? Catholics, etc? What or who?

I don't have an opinion on what you call your answer to question number #1 except to say your response was out of context because what you provided was not an answer to the question. Please read question # 1 again, I am sure you can do it.

The bulk of Christianity that I am talking about is the major portion or greater part of Christianity, does that help? Do you want me to define Christianity for you?

When you say that you "follow the teachings of Christ in the Bible" that is a good start!

Now if you can answer the two questions with acuity we could move forward as there is a long way to go in this discussion Please take the two questions, think about them for a nice while and get back then.

No you have not answered question #1, you have simply responded to it.
if you do not respond to the question as it is asked then you are not providing an answer at all. Let me give you an example: you ask me what time it is and I answer that the stereo it too loud.

I did not make a so-called "remark" and I do not understand how you came to that view. From your question to me you inferred that you did not know the definition of Christianity, hence I offered to help you.

You have been asking what my question means and I have been defining the various components. It is not my fault that you will not take the time and effort to think about it further. You will need to put in time and effort to understand what I am asking.

I would be pleased if you wish to answer the two questions, but it is going to take much more effort on your part then waht you have put in to date.
