Why are you still a Christian?

Butting in again. I think it is that he doesn't take for granted certain things that most people do with respect to God. Like the idea that God is a personality (of the king or ruler sort), or the idea that what we call a moment in time is universal, or the idea that to 'create' means to physically put your hands on something and make it so. He seems to be looking for meaning that is not bound by words.

If I only ever follow my conscience, then what is there to think about?

Well, to follow your conscience, don't you have to think? Don't you process what you are going to do, whether it be consciencely or not?

How many decisions do make in any given day that you don't even realize you made?

Momma--

You make me laugh every time you say that I like to make things complicated. Laughing I like the opposite. I am only looking for simple answers.

Ok, well, I thought I was giving you pretty simple answers.

I guess that might be where the problem lies in discussing faith with someone that needs proof. The answers seem so simple to me. But, then I have to realize those answers are based on faith and not proof. So, I can see how they may seem complicated to you.

Did that make sense? I'm getting tired.

We do have to think, but maybe that's because we are in the habit of not obeying our conscience.

BTW I appreciate your post, Freeduck.

Ok, so if you are thinking because you are not obeying your conscience, do you have to think to obey your conscience?

echi, this may be hard to do, but I heard it's a good exercise for some if they wonder about eternity.

Sit in a quite room, close your eyes and think about eternity....for as long as you can. A full 3-5 min. if you can. Nothing but forever.

I'm not sure what this does, but they say it's pretty cool. I never tried it however.

I was wondering where you did get your beliefs....are they like hindu or buddah? I can't help but get that from your posts.

I don't know what you mean by "proof". I guess I do need proof. I usually just say that I need reasons.
But I am sure that you, too, have reasons. I wonder how your definition of "reasons" differs from mine. That really interests me, a lot.

echi,

I'm not sure if you ever said you wanted proof. There have been many that have asked for it.

You need reasons. Reasons for what? Being alive? Why are you alive? What? Can you elaborate?

I'm going to bed right now but will look for your answer in the morning.

Nite all. Nite I'm the other one!

I believe it is possible to make it a habit to obey your conscience. In that case, one's thought process would always be the same. It would not deviate. I wouldn't consider that to be "thinking", in the usual sense, anyway. "Thinking" is a pretty broad term, I guess.

Yeah, I got a lot out of learning about Buddhism. I am not Buddhist, but I do like it very much.
I haven't ever tried the meditation you described. Sounds cool.
I have practised meditating on the eternal, however... the timeless present. It's kinda the same as what you were describing, but also the complete opposite.

I just need reasons for believing something, that's all.

I don't know if robots have any sense of awareness.

echi, have you ever just sat there in silence and listened to everything around you one by one? It's amazing what things you pick up when doing this such as a car on the distant highway, the neihbor's dog, etc.

All of the things we tend to block out in our everday rushed life.

I think it's silly how tv today is portraying robots to have emotions. It does seem they can gain intelligence day by day.

The self check outs at Wal-Mart cop an attitude sometimes, it's funny...."I said, pick up your bag!"

LOL

echi, it seems that you realize you are missing something in your life that needs filled.

God can provide that for you. He has for me. He has for others here too.
