One thing is for sure, if a person takes the trouble to find out what these intelligent foreign words mean, they will get an education here in able2know. I didn't know what acrimony meant much less de gustibus non est disputandum. Found the first in a regular dictionary found the other by punching up "gustibus" in google. Came up with this:

Quote:
In this paper, the authors contend: "Tastes neither change capriciously nor differ importantly between people. [Tastes] will be there next year, too, and are the same to all men."

Setanta, fair enough.

There is a high degree of irony in seeing Intrepid complain about anyone else's expressed degree of maturity. I have pointed out more than once that i only react to threads on religion in which one of three criteria are met: the thread is a discussion of, or more frequently, an attack on those who do not have the same religious beliefs as the author--fine examples are "Atheists--Your Life is Pointless" or "DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PURE CHRISTIANITY AND JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES"; threads on doctrinal issues which degenerate into attacks on those who do not share the beliefs of the members--by and large, this does not happen often, and therefore i don't appear very often in doctrinal threads, although i often read them for the entertainment value; and finally, threads posted in religion and spirituality which concern themselves with subjects which are not by definition religious--the "Evolution? How?" thread being the most notorious example at this site.

The nasty resentment to which both Intrepid and Snood give voice derives from the perpetuation of a statistical fallacy. That fallacy is known as the enumeration of favorable circumstances. Whenever either of them see a post of mine which they believe they can assert brings christians into disrepute, they are all over it, saying, in effect: "See, see how you constantly attack christians?" This ignores the that the vast majority of threads at this site which are found in the religion and spirituality forum, or threads outside that forum which have a religious theme contain no posts by me. These two jokers only take note of the times when i post something they don't like, and take no notice of the literally thousands of posts on religious topics which go by without comment from me.

You boys are welcome to your silly resentments, and neither of you need expect that i will cease to point out the ignorance and hypocricy of religionists.

By your own definition, should you have started the following thread in Humour rather than Spirituality & Religion? Just asking.

No, it's right where it belongs . . . do you contend any of the following:

That if it is appropriate to start threads on scientific topics in spirituality and religion it is nevertheless inappropriate to start humorous threads there as well?

Jesus had no sense of humor, and is even now preparing to blast me to eternal damnation?

Banner ads for Jesus at this site are not a proper discussion in the spirituality and religion forum?

That you have any other point than to attempt to keep an argument on the boil?

That any of your blather makes sense?

Good Morning Mr. Setanta!

And how are you this fine morning, sir? I hope this day brings everything that you wish it to. Wow, so many things said. Maybe I can clear some of it up? I would like to at least try.

As to your use of MOAN for me. You don't have to type MOAN, Mr. Setanta! ehBeth refers to me as MoAn. I know, it's that awful shift key again, isn't it? I know mine gets stuck sometimes too. Just thought you might like to know maybe that is what is causing that Idea

Mr. Setanta, don't you think everyone of us in this world could be called a hypocrite at one time or another? If any of us point out a perceived wrong in anyone else can any of us say we are without fault? I don't think so! I think it is very important for all of us to recognize our own faults and try to fix those, don't you?

Intepid, do you really think Setanta just says bad things about Christians? I don't. I have seen him say bad things about most people with any kind of faith or belief in God.http://web4.ehost-services.com/el2ton1/crybaby.gif I think he is being pretty fair in spreading his opinion around, don't you? Just thought you might want to know that.

I developed this particular thread because I was hoping for very honest answers about how everyone really felt. I have received many and I am very grateful for that. It has helped me to understand others quite well. I still feel there might be one or two that might not be telling it all, but that is their option. I don't want this thread to turn into an actual fight.http://web4.ehost-services.com/el2ton1/boxing.gif I said I was not going to retaliate for what is said on this thread, nor carry it over to any other threads, and I will do my best to stick to that.

I think it is also important to note that those with like beliefs, mindsets, feelings, etc., are naturally going to come to the defense of others in that group. I wouldn't expect anything less. I just wish we could do it all with a little less rancor.http://web4.ehost-services.com/el2ton1/huggles.gif

It's such a beautiful day here in Louisiana! I hope everyone is having a wonderful day!http://web4.ehost-services.com/el2ton1/trampoline.gif

Mr. Setanta, please have a good day today. You seemed a bit grumpy yesterday and I was hoping our new form of communicating would help with that.http://web4.ehost-services.com/el2ton1/heart.gif

No, I do not think it appropriate. That is why I do not do it.

Too silly to comment on.

You will have to take that up with the mods of the site.

I am not arguing. I am commenting.

But he was hardly a party pooper. His first recorded miracle was turning water to wine. For which Joe Sixpack and I are eternally grateful.

How come you get the banner ads and I don't? Is there something special about you? I wanna know!

Wasn't gonna mention it but I don't see any banner ads either. Maybe this is an intervention for Setanta. :-)

Man, this dude is funny. He has running arguments with half a dozen folks at a time, with his only aim seemingly to spout the most acrimony and get the last word. But they all have grudges against him, and he started none of it. Setanta needs a wake up call from earth.

I would like to take this occasion to thank Neo for his unfailing sense of humor. And to ask where the hell he comes off billing himself as a creator of new words--i've never seen a single new word come from him . . .
